What is up with Pilates here?

Lived here for a year and a half now and have taken Pilates at three different studios. I was an instructor for over a decade on the East Coast and it’s just so different in LA.

Joseph Pilates teached constant change to continually challenge the muscles, here I’m lucky if I’m not just doing a crap ton of lunges over and over. No thought to varying leg and arm position, little class variety. One studio I belonged to for six months had the combo reformers with the towers and I used the tower springs exactly once.

It doesn’t feel like real Pilates it feels like group personal training on a reformer. Does anyone teach real Pilates anymore? Where?

We had $34.87 left for the monthly budget and decided to repeat our February adventure of the fanciest meal we could put together and stay below budget.

We had NY Strip steak, Butternut squash sautéed in butter and maple syrup, a salad kit, crescent rolls, wine and cookies. The steak was cooked perfectly and it felt like a feast! The 6.99 wine was definitely better than the $4.99 red we bought before.

One hiccup! The salad bag was in a slot in the produce section labeled $2.99 but it rang up for $3.49 — and that sent us over our budget by 14 cents!! I was so bummed and didn’t realize the reason why so we went home, read the receipt and realized what happened.

So did we fail? In my opinion no — I’m not going to begrudge a 50 cent mistake and the meal was quite good. What do you think?

Please note: we’re recent LA transplants and don’t have steak knives or wine glasses yet — don’t judge!
