Why was my funding denied?

Hi there,

I just found out my OSAP funding was denied. It gave me this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK-FREDERICTON - Juris Doctor
Sep 8/26 - Apr 23/27

Status as of Jun 30/26

You are not eligible for OSAP for the following reasons:

  • Your program does not lead to a degree, diploma, or certificate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm wondering why my funding was denied for my program (JD at UNB) as it clearly leads to a degree.

Was it because I inputted the wrong info? From my research it looks like UNB is an approved school.

I'm an Ontario resident.

Thanks!

Residence Worth Applying?

There’s about 120 people on the waitlist for residences. I was accepted at the Law school recently and was wondering if it was worth it to pay the $800 fee in hopes of making it off the waitlist.

Also, for the meal plan, is it that you are given a school currency that you use to pay for your meals by using your university card(like uoft), or do you just simply use your card and there is no limit?

Thanks!

Low Stat Cycle Recap

Posting for future prospective Canadian law students.

LSAT: 159

CGPA: ~3.3

L2: ~3.7

Bora Laskin - A (December 16th)

Windsor - R

TMU - R

UManitoba - WL (near the middle)

TRU - WL (near the bottom)

UNB - WL -> A (June 23rd) Attending

All in all it was a stressful experience, especially since my stats were low and didn't think I was going to get in anywhere. I've very grateful that Bora Laskin accepted me so early, but UNB makes more sense for me.

If anyone has a UNB group chat I could join I'd be very appreciative.

Best of luck to everyone this cycle and every cycle next!

Breaking a lease before the start date.

I signed a lease in the middle of June for a start start date of July 1st, with two other students going to the same uni.

I paid the last months rent, (my roommates e-transferred me their portion). But i haven't yet paid first months rent, or a security deposit. But i have set up and energy account in my name.

I was accepted into a better school, so I'm looking to go there and break the lease I have now. How can I do so civilly, and without leaving my two roommates out to dry?

Thanks.

Bora Laskin or UNB Law (or TRU)?

I've been accepted at both BL and UNB, and I am currently on the WL for TRU.

I know the conventional wisdom is to go to school where you plan on practicing, but I can see myself anywhere. Which school would give me more chances anywhere?

Since BL is an Ontario school, would It give me a better chance if I plan on coming back to Toronto (not big law) or moving to BC to be closer to my family? Or would UNB give me a better chance, since its a more recognizable school with a wider alumni network?

Basically, I'm looking for input as to which school would best set me up for a law career regardless of where I am to be settled geographically.

Thanks!

Safe Bike/ Scooter Storage at Bora Laskin Law School?

Hi there,

Can anyone give provide insight into how risky it is to lock up a bike/ scooter on the law school campus?

Does anyone do it? Has anyone's bike/scooter been stolen?

Thanks!
