Why is child support required to disclose when parent 1 isn’t required to claim it as income on their T1? It makes no sense and seems totally unrealistic given the cost of living crisis.

The calculator was very deceptive. My son applied for Osap (1st time) and he is only being given $11k. It doesn’t even cover full cost of tuition or books and fees not to mention the $17k required for residence. We are absolutely devastated.

Please, if you have any recommendations or other resources, it’s appreciated.

Yes, we are aware of scholarships and bursaries but those are not guaranteed. Student job availability is also in crisis. WTF do students do? Universities only for the rich apparently.

Question, I submitted my OSAP disability verification form during the current summer term and got approved yesterday (May 19). Right after the approval, I noticed my funding was recalculated, but when I checked the assessment there was no actual change.

I also didn’t see the Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities (the automatic $2,800 grant) added anywhere in my funding summary. Is there a reason why this might happen? Does it take time to appear, or is there something else I need to do/contact my financial aid office about?

Hey yall I’m going back to school at the ripe age of 27. I still live with my parents and my tuition is about $8000. I’ve been quoted to get $11000 total ($5000 grant). To be honest this is less than I expected. Any one else have a similar experience? My friend told me she said she didn’t live at home to get more but that sounds shady.

What are my chances? I already got my summer funds but my disability application was processed later. I just asked for a reassessment to possibly increase my funds due to my disability equipment & health related issues not being taken into account. Do I have a good case? I was under the impression the 2800 in grants would be sent to me

yo, my parents are straight up refusing to give over any financial info knowing I need it for the OSAP application. What do I do and by when do I take action. Is there a specific format for these situations

long story short i had a lot of mental health issues and dropped out in my first sem. i owed osap 6k, but i plan on going back to school in september. do i still have to pay this amount immediately? or will it go back to needing to be paid once im done bc i dont have the money to pay them right now

i just finished first year uni for which i took osap loans + grants with a full time application. i'm now taking 1 spring course which is part-time so i made a part-time osap application. does this mean my full-time loans from before are interest free? what are the next steps?

On Friday I saw a random amount of $1000 had been deposited into my bank account with no notification from OSAP or NSLSC or anyone. Yesterday I saw that they had removed it. Did someone make a mistake? I have no idea what it was for. Imagine if I had spent that money lol, they didn’t even send any kind of message regarding the mistake. I recently put $1000 towards my student loans and that’s the only correlation I can think of.

Hi guys. I finished my bachelors of science, and my next degree is a 2-year degree. I took up 5 years-worth of OSAP and I was told OSAP might have 1.5 years left of funding available for me? But I cannot find that at all on the NSLSC website. I'm not sure where to go. Any help? Thanks!

Applied for OSAP recently and the estimated total was based off of both my parent and step parent’s income (which with this government is never enough). The thing is that my step parent has explicitly stated that they will not support me financially in my academics. They also have never supported me directly or indirectly since the marriage.

Since I’m at uOttawa, there’s pretty much no information on the guidelines for a non-supportive step parent appeal online and when I called the financial office, they told me they didn’t have access to my file until late June???. I’m aware I have to send in a letter and such but I’m not sure if it’s different for uOttawa. And most importantly, I don’t even know WHERE to submit it. If anyone knows anything can you shed some knowledge? Or if someone has dealt with someone similar let me know.

Hi, This is my first year in University. During the winter semester I fell sick and honestly hit a depressive period that resulted in me failing three of my five courses funded by Osap. This means I fall short of the 60% requirement.

To get my GPA up, I paid out of pocket for three summer courses that work with my degree. Though, based on my research Osap doesn't see my summer courses since they focus on what they paid for.

I am aware they have a one year grace period, where they still pay for funding. Osap pays for my student housing and courses for the year, I live pretty far from my University a commute would be impossible.

I'm not in a place where I can communicate this with my parents safely. So, any advice on how I can get the issue solved without having to get them involved? I know there is something about an Academic Probation Form, I am unaware of the process.

What steps should I take now, Osap submissions recently opened up and I'm honestly terrified. I am not diagnosed either, so I don't think I can list my mental health as an excuse to financial aid office? (I read an older post where they suggested emailing them)

So I started receiving CPP survivor benefit as I didn’t know it was a thing until around December. I updated my osap income amounts as a result. Although the income is less than $5000 per semester, Osap recalculated my amount and said its “overpayment” and that I need to pay the exact amount I got from CPP the whole semester towards my Osap loan. I thought it wouldn’t affect my Osap calculation because it was so low, is this accurate?

Also, since I’m still a dependent can Osap verify that I’m receiving CPP? As I think they only check my parent’s CRA income right?

So there was an issue with my part-time application for Osap and it ended up being delayed(still haven’t received it) The deadline is coming up in like 2 days and im wondering if I can pay my tuition out of pocket and still receive my full funding at a later date…

What happens if i quit in the first semester?

Hey just wondering if anyone's in the same boat. I was in RAP on NSLSC which was supposed to end September. My original estimated dispersal of funds was May 2nd-5th. It's May 19th and I still haven't received anything. I've called several times and no one seems to know a damn thing. On OSAP it shows that the funds were released ages ago but on NSLSC it still says "finalizing funding". They cancelled my RAP but my status still says "in repayment"

I really need that money since ive barely been working the last couple weeks due to being in school. Did anyone have a similar experience? How long after your RAP ended were you switched to "in study" and able to receive your funding?

I was initially going to take a summer semester but recieved an internship and dropped my courses. I had filled out the osap extension form, but then called my financial aid office to rectify it and say I wasnt taking a summer semester anymore. They told me to close my osap application and complete a course load update form, both which I did. And yet I still recieved funding. What do I do?
