OSAP Funding Cut

I just woke up this morning to find that my OSAP funding had been recalculated and cut by over 50%. I am currently waiting to speak with my school's Financial Aid Office but am wondering if this has happened to anyone else? It is saying the entire funding comes out in the first semester, so I will be getting nothing in the second semester. Nothing has changed with my family's or my personal financials, so I have no idea why it has been cut so low.

Failed 2 semesters — will I still get OSAP?

I failed two consecutive semesters in Centennial College last year. I’ve now applied to Algonquin College for a completely different program starting this September.
OSAP asked me to submit academic progress documents, which I uploaded along with a letter explaining why I struggled at Centennial and why I’m changing programs.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did OSAP put you on academic probation, restrict your funding, or were you still able to receive OSAP for the new program?
I’m mostly worried about whether I’ll actually receive funding for September and how long the academic progress review took. I already submitted an “academic progress” letter regarding why my circumstances had made it hard for me to attend school. I also successfully completed a bachelors before and a diploma in the past thru OSAP.
Any experiences would be appreciated!

Applied for 1 semester funding, got for both fall and winter

Hi,

I’m planning to do just a fall semester and then graduate, and so I applied for osap for just the fall semester Sep 8 - Dec 23 of 2026. I also received an estimate and it was for just 1 semester. However, my funding was just calculated and I automatically received funding for both fall and winter when I applied for just the fall. I’m worried because it says if a term is dropped the grants can be converted into loans, and so I don’t know what to do or if this happened to anyone else before.

I’m going to be contacting my financial aid office at my university regarding this. They were also the ones that told me to just apply for the fall term and so I’m not sure why it automatically changed the term date to end in April. If anyone has any other input let me know pls!

Thanks

Using the loan option for investing

Edit: I understand that some people are less unfortunate, I am just asking for help however my situation is not any better I just want to make the best of it

Hi, i thought about taking the loan and putting it on a tfsa savings account, but i heard if you do that osap would give you less grants because it would be seen as you have more money for school

Did any of you do this? I do not need the money but i would rather make some money with it

Either putting it into tfsa or putting it into an index fund, then paying the ontario portion before it starts charging you interest and pay the federal portion monthly

I rather not do it if i am gonna have less grants and loan next year but let me know what u did
Thanks

Why Is My OSAP So Low?

I'm going into first year engineering, my tuition alone is 12000, but my OSAP came back as 1800 in grants and 6900 in loans. My sibling is going into their last year at uni, but they are still getting almost 1000 more than me in grants. My parent is a single parent who makes around 60k-ish net and just over 100k gross. All my friends whose families make WAY more money than mine, are getting 4-5k in grants even though their tuition costs less than mine. I'm not sure what I should do atp, my start up cost is quiet high on top of my tuition (gpu, laptop, textbooks etc). My CO-OP doesn't start until 3rd year. I don't know what I should do or why this is the way it is, any help is greatly appreciated.

OSAP gave me $0, how am I supposed to pay my tuition?

I’m entering my 3rd year of Nursing and recently applied for OSAP, but I was assessed for $0. I work part-time, but I don’t make enough to cover my tuition on my own.

There was also an issue with my mom’s tax information that she’s been trying to resolve with the CRA for the past few weeks, so I’m pretty sure that’s affecting my application. My brother is entering his 1st year and received OSAP, so I’m confused about why I received nothing.

I genuinely can’t afford to pay my tuition out of pocket, as I receive no financial help from my parents. Are there any options for me? I’m really not sure what to do.

Avoiding Interest On OSAP Loan Repayment

Is it possible to pay off my OSAP loans while I am still in university. I anticipate that I will be able to pay off my loans during my final year. This would allow me to avoid the interest on the Ontario Loans as well right?

Acknowledgement of Academic Probation.

Hey everybody, I had a bad school year last year with personal problems etc. My course was only supposed to be a year but I’ll be running behind. I had to reapply for OSAP. But in order to get my funding the financial aid office is making me fill out an “acknowledgment of academic probation” paper. I’ve already talked to my program directors & came up with our plan etc.

Will be funding be the same as before etc? Will everything be okay?

Has anyone been through this? Thank you.

Psychoeducational Assessment

Hello, I am 50 years old and going back to school next month. 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD (after my teenaged daughter was, and I figured out who she got it from. lol). In any case, I've never had a psychoeducational assessment done, as I didn't see any reason to, and it's quite expensive. (My daughter had one done when she was younger, and has several specific learning disabilities).

Now that I'm going back to school, and I have disability status for OSAP, I'm wondering if now would be the time to get a psychoeducational assessment, since it could potentially be covered by the BSWD.

When my doctor was filling out my disability verification form, she specifically asked me if I had learning disabilities. I said probably, but have never been diagnosed, so she checked 'no'.

Will the BSWD still pay for a psychoeducational assessment if the doctor checked 'no' for learning disabilities?

Taking "grant-only" for 3rd year—when do past OSAP loans go into repayment?

Hey everyone,

I’m heading into my 3rd and final year of college and I’ve decided to take grant-only funding for this upcoming school year instead of taking on new loans.

I already have student loans from my first two years. Since I'm not taking a new loan this year, how does the 6-month grace period work?

Will my previous loans enter repayment 6 months after this upcoming year ends (meaning I'd start paying around October 2027), or does something else happen because I opted out of loans for this final year?(Making me pay October 2026 )

Appreciate any insight or experiences from anyone who has done grant-only!

( I would ask my financial aid for my college but they took 1 week to reply from my other about another question)

0sap requires me to complete MSFAA to link my bank account, but it isn’t allowing me to do so and I’m afraid I won’t get my money. Please help me.

So I tried completing the MSFAA, but my bank wasn’t one of the (very few) available banks they support (Northern Credit Union). The site told me that to link a bank that wasn’t supported, I have to apply for a Perosnal Acess code, which is done by providing my sin, my first name, and my last name. The problem is, even though I input all of the correct information and even tried re doing the form multiple times, but even though all of my information is correct it keeps denying me. I am a Canadian Citizen, born and raised, and I read all of the fine print.

‘Th4y then told me to call their number to request a personal access code over telephone, but the number they provided to call ended up being a CPP Disability p4nsion plan number which has nothing do do with the pwge it was attached to. I’m stuck and I don’t know what to do. I’ve even updated my social insurance record and nothing. It’s 2 weeks before I leave for univeristy and I have no financial assistanc. I’ve been trying to apply for months and nothing.

Is $20,500 enough to cover both my tuition and living costs?

I’ve received $20,500 in osap for this year. Around $15,000 in loans and $6000 in grants. My tuition is around $8000. I am planning on using the rest to cover my off campus rent as it’s only around $900 monthly. Will osap deposit the money straight to my tuition and the rest deposit to my bank account, i’m kind of clueless onto how it works. I am also not too sure about how much money they take in fees (random school costs) do you think i will be alright? Or should i start looking for a part time job? Thanks!

Only got $5,000 OSAP for the year.

Hey everyone, I just got my OSAP calculation back and I am completely panicking. They are only giving me $5,000 for the entire school year (less than $2,000 for the Fall term after fees/tuition deferrals).
There is no way I can survive on this. I live 8 hours away from my campus, so I have to move and pay rent. On top of that, my dad is in school full-time, and my mom is completely unemployed. What should I do? Should I just accept defeat and drop out or just attend a college and change my major.

CSFA verification interview was cancelled — has this happened to anyone else? When did you receive your OSAP?

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has had the same experience with the CSFA/OSAP verification process.
I received an email from the Canada Student Financial Assistance (CSFA) Program asking me to attend a video verification interview through Microsoft Teams. The appointment was scheduled for 45 minutes.
I was ready to join the interview at the scheduled time. However, right around the appointment time, I received an email saying that the interview had been cancelled and that the interview was no longer required.
I contacted CSFA to make sure this was correct. They confirmed that the interview is no longer required.
However, they told me that they need to contact the province (Ontario) regarding my case. They said that I don’t need to contact the province myself and asked me to wait 5 days. They told me that if I don’t receive an update after 5 days, I should contact CSFA again.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Did your CSFA verification interview get cancelled?
Did CSFA also say they would contact Ontario/provincial authorities?
How long did it take for your OSAP hold to be removed?
How long after the cancellation did you receive your OSAP funding?
Did you have to provide any additional documents?
Did your OSAP status change after the interview was cancelled?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who went through this in 2026.
Thanks!
