How Are Students Supposed to Survive Like This With OSAP?

I genuinely do not understand OSAP anymore.

My tuition isn’t even being fully covered, yet I see so many other people getting significantly more than me even though their parents actually have income.

My family is literally living off savings. I work 48 hours every single week while being a full-time student because I’m trying to help support my family and also save money for a medically necessary surgery.

I barely get 3 hours of sleep most days.

And when I try talking to financial aid, I get basically no help. I’ve even gotten the whole “that’s how we all did it” attitude.

No. It absolutely isn’t.

OSAP used to give people way more support. Everything is more expensive now too. Tuition, rent, groceries, gas, literally everything.

I’m not even sitting here demanding free money. They can keep the grants if they want. Increase my loans. I literally just want enough funding to cover my tuition so I can actually stay in school.

I am not a robot. I already work 48 hours a week while studying full time. What exactly am I supposed to do? Work 60? 70? When am I supposed to sleep? When am I supposed to study?

This cannot be normal.

I feel like I’m already at rock bottom financially, and somehow my tuition still isn’t even covered.

Why was school more affordable and OSAP more supportive for people before our generation, when everything they were paying for was cheaper than it is now?

And the private college situation makes me even more angry. How are there people going to certain private colleges receiving huge amounts of OSAP funding, while students at public universities who are struggling this badly can’t even get their basic tuition covered?

How does that make any sense?

Someone who is working almost 50 hours a week, studying full time, helping their family financially, barely sleeping, and saving for a medically necessary surgery apparently still doesn’t qualify for enough assistance to cover tuition.

What more are we supposed to do?

And then on top of all of that, you pay thousands and thousands of dollars in tuition just to end up with professors who have ratings below 1.4 on Rate My Professors.

So pay an insane amount of money, barely get enough financial support to stay enrolled, destroy your sleep and health trying to work enough hours, and then get a terrible education on top of it.

Nice.

The worst part is the complete lack of empathy from some of the staff. You explain your situation and instead of someone actually trying to help you figure out your options, you feel like you’re being dismissed or mocked.

I’m genuinely at my breaking point. I don’t know how much more a person is expected to handle while working this much, studying full time, barely sleeping, and still being told the support available isn’t enough to even cover tuition.

If anybody has been in a similar situation with OSAP where your funding wasn’t enough to even cover tuition, please tell me what you did.

Did you request a review? Appeal your assessment? Contact someone outside your school’s financial aid office? Is there anything else I can actually do?

Because I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to keep doing this.

STAT 2910 abdelkadir hussein

The class says Asynchronous fully online and based off the rate my prof, I seen someone say it consists of three 25% tests and a final exam of 25%. How accurate is this? And was the tests done online or in person?

Other option is kevin granville

Please let me know and thank you in advance

RTW message - Require to Withdraw

Hello everyone,

I have a friend in my program that got a RTW email that he didn't see until now, which made him miss the deadline to appeal and can appeal but with an excuse.

He also applied to OSAP before he knew about the RTW.

He has ADHD and he has been working full time to provide for his family as his family is struggling financially, which led him to fail 3 classes. However, now he's on medication and has the ability to take a break from work to focus on his studies. He had over 90 average in high school so it's definitely not an academic issue.

What do you guys recommend? Who should he talk to to appeal it? What's the chance of it being successful?

I'm really stressed for him and don't know how to help him. Thank you guys in advance.

19yr old needing advice

I need some advice because I honestly don’t know much about cars, and this situation has gotten worse than I expected.

Recently I made a Facebook post asking about mechanic quotes. Shops around me were quoting about $800–$900 to replace brake pads, rotors, and a caliper. A lot of people told me that price was a scam and suggested I use a mobile mechanic instead.

I found one through Facebook who seemed legit — real account, clients commenting, etc. He quoted me $150 labor if I bought the parts myself.

Day 1:

He came to do the job, but while removing one of the pieces, it snapped while being taken out by hand (according to him). He didn’t have the right equipment to deal with it at the time, so he said he’d come back another day.

The issue was that the wheel/rim wouldn’t come off while the broken piece was still stuck inside, which is why he started drilling it out in the first place.

Day 2:

He came back and spent hours drilling out the broken piece. In total he’s probably spent around 6 hours on the car so far. He still couldn’t fix it, and now he’s saying the rim is damaged beyond saving and I’ll need a new one too. The rim was completely fine before this.

Today was supposed to be Day 3, but instead I got a call asking for more money. I was already planning to pay him extra because I understand the job became more difficult than expected, but what’s making me uncomfortable is:

- He keeps asking for additional money

- The rim is now apparently ruined after being drilled

- The car still isn’t fixed

Now he’s asking for:

- $300 total if he continues the work

OR

- $50 if I decide to take the car somewhere else

I’m trying to be fair because I understand unexpected problems can happen, but I also feel weird paying more when the situation got worse and additional damage may have been caused during the repair attempt.

Am I being unreasonable here? Should I pay him? And if so, how much would actually be fair in this situation?

I’ll attach before/after photos in the comments.
