Today I learned that a car doesn’t need to be completely wrecked to be “totaled”
tl;dr, I got into my first car accident last week, I was at fault, I opened a claim with my insurance, my car was still functional aside from a busted driver’s side blinker. I was still able to drive my car to and from work and anywhere else with little issue, so I thought that surely it can be fixed.
After going to the collision repair shop for an estimate, I was equally surprised and not surprised at how much the repair estimate was, and then today I got a call from my insurance company saying that the car was deemed a total loss.
Now that I know what “totaled” really means, I’m not really surprised. It’s a 10-year-old Ford and it has almost 190,000 miles on it, but still. Besides the blinker, the car works. It may not have much time left anyways, but it *works.*
