Does phosphatidylserine negatively affect workout performance?

Read about this supplement in a biohacking book and recently decided to add it in my stack. I've been taking it on and off at night just at 100mg along with the magnesium L threonate, fish oil, vitamin d, and my prescribed stimulant throughout the day for better sleep.

If I had to describe my feeling after taking it, it feels like a milder version of a medicine I was prescribed named guanfacine that gives a nice calm floating feeling. Over the past week though I think the phosphatidylserine might be ruining my workouts. I dont feel as pumped or energetic to do it as I used to even using something like preworkout mixed with creatine.

I bring up the guanfacine comparison because I also experienced something similar but way worse where I would get physically sick during sets and stopped taking it for that exact reason. I know I'm not taking a crazy high dose of the phosphatidylserine but the timing lines up. I've also been doing neurofeedback at home but don't think this would have an effect on that.

Wanted to see if anyone experienced anything similar or is more knowledgeable about how the mechanisms work for this to be scientifically a possibility.

How do you guys improve your control times?

https://preview.redd.it/f8kyvwk44zjh1.png?width=535&format=png&auto=webp&s=e420dc40d856234b0951e79ec23d360d98b8f603

Been doing Mendi everyday for over a week and impressed with the real life improvements I've been noticing in my daily life. I used to only be able to read books for an hour before zoning out but now I'm about to maintain longer sessions not getting distracted even in public. I feel like my sleep is also way better where I'm knocked out almost immediately when I hit my bed without racing thoughts keeping me up.

I'm still struggling with impulsivity and think that's represented by my control times not really improving along with my other metrics. My experience has been just passively looking at the ball makes it go along straight with the occasional bumps and dips but doesn't go on for long. Think I'm supposed to clear my mind but I'm stuck fixated on thinking about the ball going up.

It's only when I mentally exert myself I can make the ball skyrocket but as soon as I get exhausted it plummets right back down. Would appreciate some tips from people who have been doing this for awhile now.

Mendi ADHD experience and advice for new user

Recently I pulled the trigger and bought a discounted Mendi on eBay. I’ve known about the device for some time now but after reading the neurofeedback section in The Body Keeps the Score it finally convinced me to give a solid try.

I’m aware it’s not gonna be on the same level as clinical Neurofeedback and to keep my expectations in check; but as someone who’s read about neuroscience the past couple of years through layman books fromDavid Eagleman and Leonard Mlodinow, I’m excited to put what I’ve read into actual practice.

To give some background I was more or less diagnosed with ADHD last year. I convinced the psychiatrist to test me on Adderall and responded well during the honey moon phase. Since then I switched to taking Vyvanse because the Adderall depression crashes were too much for me. Without medication I’m able to pay attention and hyper focus on things that I’m interested in but really suffer with choice paralysis and task initiation for more important but mundane things. This has caused me to developmentally fall behind in terms of stuff like career development and feeling like I don’t really have any agency in my own life. Vyvanse has been helpful almost as a mood stabilizer but I feel like it gives me too much energy and I’m unable to direct it to something productive.

Also pretty sure I suffer from mild PTSD like symptoms because of the environment I grew up in. Each of my parents suffered from their own mental health and drug addiction issues which really didn’t help them be functioning adults. As a adult now It’s made me be extremely hyper vigilant to how others perceive me and risk adverse to the point I’ve been mentally and physically stuck in the same place for awhile now just spinning my wheels. This is probably my biggest issue and it inflates my ADHD like symptoms to an extreme.

To get to the point though my goal with Mendi is to try to make up for what I’m lacking in when it comes to executive function and emotional regulation. Through the coming months I plan on testing this by finally trying to work on a YouTube video I’ve been procrastinating for the last several years.

So my questions are for those who’ve been using Mendi consistently for awhile now:

  1. Do you use it before or after you take any prescribed medication and what’s the best time of day for a session.

  2. A week ago I was prescribed Guanfacine which is supposed to act on the prefrontal cortex in a more direct way, wondering if anyone has used it in conjunction with mendi and the results.

  3. In typical ADHD fashion I bought the mind illuminated years ago and it’s just been collecting dusk in my room . What’s the best way in combining mediation along with daily Mendi use If I were to start meditating seriously.

I’m sorry this was really long and probably overly drawn out but wanted to be transparent in what I’m trying and expecting with using mendi consistently. I’m really trying to change my life this time and hoping this becomes a key part of that process.

I’m open to other suggestions as well besides clinical neurofeedback as it’s not really available for me. Appreciate any feedback or responses I get :)

Anybody have success using Guanfacine long term?

Recently got prescribed a 1mg extended release dose to go along with my Vyvanse 50 mg. I’ve been interested in trying Guanfacine for awhile after reading how it affects the prefrontal cortex and improves emotional regulation. As somebody with pretty bad rejection sensitivity that causes me to freeze up and not take action it seemed like a good pairing with my Vyvanse. I Planned taking it at night since I heard about the fatigue.

Well that didn’t work out because it’s causing me borderline insomnia. I don’t feel tired but just light headed like my brain is sinking in mud due to drop off in blood pressure it causes. Also didn’t realize the half life for extended is up to 17 hours so feeling like shit the entire day. My Vyvanse doesn’t even feel like it’s working and worst of all it’s getting in the way of my workouts like I’m gonna vomit every other set.

I might try changing the dosing timing and taking half doses but close to quitting. Know everybody’s different but wanted to see if somebody had similar side effects and was able to stick it out with long term benefits along with their Vyvanse.
