31M 8 month update 476.8-283.0

31M 6’2” down 193.8 in 8 months.

That’s down another 42 pounds since my 6 month update I posted here.

Things have been going great, energy is at an all time high, cardio has been improving, more running, longer bike rides.

Lifts are starting to stay stagnant and not really adding weight or reps at this point. Planning to lose another 15ish and do a short maintenance phase to help recovery and strength. Body scans show muscle mass is holding steady now so that’s a plus.

Able to do more with my kids than I could have ever imagined when I started this journey and I’m forever grateful for that.

Planning on competing in a summer shredding show in August or September of next year.

8 months today.

31M SW 476.6 CW 289.0 Dose 7.5

Today makes 8 months since I started.

Down 187.6 pounds, stronger than I was, energy is so much better too.

Decided to go out for some cardio this morning and ended up hitting 31 miles on my e-bike (I do use pedal assist on the low setting).

8 months ago I couldn’t have done 1 mile.

Now it’s off to the gym to hit some weights and relax for the rest of my Sunday.

Into the 200’s for the first time in my adult life.

SW 476 CW 299.8 6.5mg

7 months ago when I started this journey my goal was to lose 100 pounds in a year and I thought that was far fetched and super ambitious.

Today I weighed in down 177 pounds and in the 200’s for the first time I honestly ever remember. Spend all of my 20’s over 300 and at least the last 7 years over 400.

The work is still rolling, my new goal is 225 at the one year mark.

When you pair this medication with the gym, cardio and tracking literally every single thing you eat the results blew my mind.

Dieting Cheat Code

I have been doing yogurt bowls for dessert every night. Saw this pie filling at the store and tried it.

This is absolutely a cheat code, tastes absolutely incredible, macros are amazing and it takes under a minute to make.

Too good to not share.

31M 476-325 6months

6 months in today:

476.8 → 325.2

Down 151.6 lbs.

Maintaining 197-200 lbs of lean body mass.

Maintaining 112.5-113 lbs of skeletal muscle mass.

Doing it all in a ~2,500-calorie daily deficit.

Turns out the hardest thing to lose wasn’t the weight.

It was all the excuses.

Last check in before 6 month mark.

31M SW476.6 CW325.8 Dose6.5mg

Last weekly check in before my 6 month mark on Tuesday. Lost 7.2 with week to officially cross the 150 pound down mark. Hit a new deadlift PR yesterday too for an added bonus to the week.

Since I have started I have not had a single week I did not lose, my worst week was 1.6 lost with my highest at 11.6 down.

I started December 16th and haven’t had a single cheat day since January 1st, I haven’t had a few cheat meals but always within my calorie goal and have tracked every bite since then as well. Current streak of 163 days on My Fitness Pal.

My “worst” week in the gym was 4 days of lifting and 1 day of cardio.

My biggest goal was staying consistent and not allowing myself to quit, fail or give up has pushed me further than I could have ever imagined.

I have been doing regular body scans every 20-25 pounds and have successfully maintained all of my lean body mass (196-200#) for the last 5 months after the initial drop in the first month due to inflammation loss. Skeletal muscle has held steady around 113# as well. I couldn’t ask for better results so far.

It’s been a wild ride but I’m glad to have this sub to share my progress with!

Finished a refeed week, raised my calories by 1k and still lost weight.

31M 6’2” SW476 CW333 5.5 months.

Just finished up a refeed week because my gym performance was starting to drop drastically, low energy, weights just felt heavier and it basically hit all at once.

Decided to up my intake to 2,750-3000 instead of 1,750-2000 I have been eating and use the extra for more carbs. I feel great now, lifts the last two days feel better than ever, recovery is great and all my energy is back.

I still lost 2.6 pounds this week, debating on if I should push more more calories and try to hit maintenance calories or if a refeed week where you still lost weight will be enough to help maintain the energy levels.

One decision can change your life.

31M 6’2” SW 476.8 CW 335.6 Dose 6.5mg

In early December I was researching weight loss surgery hard, had decided I was having it done and was about to start the process. I was watching a basketball game that night and a Zepbound commercial came on for sleep apnea (which I had horribly) and I started researching it. Found out about the weight loss benefits and kept researching.

Went to my PCP, who was extremely happy to help me but insurance denied me. I found this sub and used one of the recommended provides. 3 weeks in I could tell it was helping tremendously, I felt what I could only describe to myself as how “normal people” felt about food and not the constant thoughts about eating.

I told myself then I was giving myself 6 months to lock into a plan, track everything I ate with no cheat days, lift 3 days a week and do cardio 2.

I’m almost to the 6 month mark, have tracked every single bite for the last 149 days, have not once ate at or above maintenance calories. Averaging 5 days a week of lifting and 3 days a week of cardio, my “cheat meals” have all fit within my calorie budget for the day.

I’m down 141.2 pounds as of today and am no longer considering the surgery at all. Getting on this medication was the best decision I have ever made. My blood pressure is down from 148/98ish with medication to 110/70ish with no medication.

I have ran multiple 5k’s, 1 10k and 8 miles once. I’m down 3 shirt sizes, 7 pants sizes and even 1 shoe size lol.

One decision changed the entire outcome of my life and I am so thankful for it. I have absolutely nothing against the surgery, but truthfully it scared me, I was willing to do it because it scared me less than being 476 pounds did.

5 months in.

31M 476SW 351CW 5mg

5 months ago when I started on this medication 1 mile was a long way to walk, 2 miles felt impossible.

Today I ran 8 miles in the rain just to probe to myself that I could.

This has been hands down the best thing I have ever done in my life.

Currently training for a half marathon next April.

This group inspired me off my last post.

I posted in here last week about my first 5k as a big/heavy runner. The amount of support and encouragement I received pushed to try even harder.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Here is the Facebook post I made today.

What started this morning as my first longer run turned into something I think I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

The plan was simple.
Just push myself to run 5 miles.

The longest run I had ever done before today was 3.2 miles.

About a mile in, the rain started pouring.
30mph wind.
Cold.
Wet.
Miserable conditions.

The kind of weather that makes most people turn around and say, “I’ll try again another day.”

And honestly… every part of me wanted to quit.

Not physically at first.
Mentally.

Every mile felt like a fight with myself.

There was this constant voice in my head telling me I had already done enough.
Telling me nobody would blame me for going home early.
Telling me I could always come back tomorrow.

But deep down, I knew this run had become about something bigger than miles.

So I kept going.

4 miles passed… farther than I had ever ran in my life.
Then 5.
Then 6.
Then 7.

And somehow I finished 8 miles completely soaked, exhausted, freezing cold, and more emotional than I can even explain.

Because somewhere out there in the rain, I realized something that hit me harder than the run itself:

I’m not the same person anymore.

Not long ago, discomfort used to stop me.
Pain used to stop me.
Excuses used to stop me.

I used to quit on myself constantly.

But today, no matter how many times my mind told me to stop, I kept putting one foot in front of the other.

And by the time I finished, this wasn’t about running anymore.

It wasn’t about weight loss.

It was about finally proving to myself that I’m capable of hard things.

Sat in my pickup afterward completely drenched, staring out the windshield trying to process it all.

May or may not have shed a few tears.

Not because it hurt.

Because for the first time in a very long time… I felt genuinely proud of the person I’m becoming.

I was continuing to lose too rapidly and started dealing with a lot of fatigue in the gym so I have upped my calorie intake (2,750 now) and slowed down my weight loss some and have started running.

Ran 2 5k’s this weekend. Crushed my PR with a 44:07 today. Feel better than ever, stronger than ever too.

If you have ever needed the push to get into the gym or get into running/jogging/walking or any other kind of exercise trust me, it’s worth it.

Im not going to lie to you, the first 2-3 weeks absolutely suck. After that, you start to see real results and it is worth the sacrifice, I promise.

u/Longjumping_Split_53 — 4 months ago

Down 121# (476-355)

Ran my first 5k yesterday (bubble run that ended up being only 2.55 miles) and 2nd 5k today.

Absolutely crushed my previous PR by 4:18 for a 44:07.

Time isn’t great but at 355# i am absolutely proud of myself.

Ran my 3 fastest miles to date all in one run.
