My one-footed buddy
I feed the crows on my daily beach walks here on the central Oregon coast, and lately this little guy has been showing up. I promise, they got more peanuts after the thief-in-training left!

Hey there, hoping to get some tips from you guys. I picked up the anthology for my switch 2 recently, and after a few bad starts underestimating barbarians, I finally got a little game going on default settings as Rome, with all the DLC stuff off for now, as I’m really just trying to learn the basic systems.
I decided to try to go for a science victory. I was a little unsure how thin to spread my focus and I mostly ignored religion till fairly recently. I’ve got proselytizers from rival nations going around, which I’m just ignoring for now, not sure how much of a mistake that is or isn’t.
I made two harbors with two different cities, but I’ve only made 4 ships so far, I’m always a little unsure how much military I should be building because I don’t know what the odds of war or of my allies turning on me are.
Once the rival nation I share a continent with, the United States, filled in all the spare space on our continent with settled cities, I realized that I probably should have done the same and not been so satisfied with just 5. Now that the things are the way they are, I’m trying to figure out how influence and loyalty work.
So yeah, this is just my learning game, and it’s not a big deal if I lose, but I’d love any advice based on what can be seen.
Oh, and I have six trade routes and I waited till just a few turns ago to finally make my first Spies.
As noted in the tag, I’m gonna be talking a little about some mid game stuff, so spoilers!
Anyways, this is the highest level I’ve ever been, the first run where I’ve beaten Bethesda and then the new few quests after too. I started with Classic the week it came to switch but pretty quickly realized that was going to be a very time consuming way to learn the game, so I’ve been playing roleplay, with the plan to get to about mid-game before going back to Classic actually feeling like I have a fighting chance.
However, if I *was* going to keep playing this build, I’m really unsure about what skills I’d want to get next, I’m always a little worried about spreading myself too thin. This is the first run where I wanted to try tinkering but I haven’t gone very far with it yet, just collecting lots of bits and still kind of confused how the whole schematics thing works.
The skills are all starting ones except for adrenal rush, I tried buying just one skill for 4 points and it was that. I’m double pistols, but I wanted to eventually get jacked weapons which is why I picked electrical generation, got lucky and found a jacked laser rifle fairly early in the run and it’s been my workhorse ever since. I water ritualed my way to getting Proselytize and really like having it, which is the reason there’s any ego, although maybe that’s not a good focus with this build?
Anyways, any advice appreciated!
