Maybe it's just me. I know it's suboptimal play and slows everything down. Sometimes it sort of throws the aesthetic of my wonder choices off too. But the mere presence of wonders that offer extra policy slots... it's simply impossible to ignore.
The AI usually rushes Alhambra while I'm grabbing pyramids (which is basically a policy card), but then the medieval and industrial eras hit and suddenly I'm putting all my most productive cities on pause to slam out a potala palace, forbidden city, big ben, wherever I can place them fastest without destroying a luxury or bonus resource. It's some kind of addiction.
(Yes I know I could just pick Owls, I don't like the Owls)
Hey Reddit!I know the golden rule of this sub: if a beginner asks who to play, 90% of you immediately answer "Trajan's Rome." I’ve read it dozens of times. But I’m here to challenge that consensus and settle a debate between me and my brother.I am a complete beginner playing with all DLCs and expansions. My brother is a veteran player (600–700 hours) Or More I don't know, and he is teaching me the game. The Consensus: Everyone says Trajan is the best for beginners because of the free monuments, automatic roads, and instant trading posts. It automates the boring stuff. Our Take (Me & My Brother): We actually think Nzinga Mbande (Kongo) is a much better and stronger choice for a newcomer. Her +10% yields to everything (science, culture, faith, gold, production) on the home continent is absolute insanity. It inflates your stats so much that it naturally forgives early-game placement mistakes. Plus, unlike vanilla Kongo, she can actually play the religion game.We are playing with all expansions active. Is Trajan really still the king for a beginner, or has Nzinga Mbande power-crept him? Tell us why we might be wrong, or why you agree with us!
Uluru + Petra + Granada in my desert city that started out as almost unplayable.
These yields made the game worth it
Bro nearly survived a firing squad and even took one out 😭😭😭
Or should I use the +8?
Question, i was really ahead to get the scientist that reveals petroleum, and it disappeared (few turns after i changed area). Is the computer cheating or its due to the area ch1nge ?
Inplay vanilla
A few turns prior to this screenshot a spy managed to steal 183,000 gold from my commercial hub here.
I might just be bitter, but everytime i attack another civ, especially in early games, barbarians come out of nowhere to attack me. They literally walk past another civ city to attack mine and also attack my attack forces. Are they conspiring?
Its like when the AI is desparate, they move the barbarians for backup.
I was playing a game of civ with my friend, knowing I could get my settler to the desired location before he could take it. I did not account for TELEPORTATION.
I already use a couple but I thought I would go to the community and ask what you guys use.
Edit: Why the hell did someone downvoted this?
Long story short: I'm not destroying him so much as....doing ok.
Not a ton of great Campus locations as you can see, but I'm doing alright. My son is not beside me (as Seondeok) or even all that close, so while he's been dominating in science and taking out two of AI players, I've been battling floods and barbarians and slowly but surely spreading my religion, Green Space-Cows, and getting some decent money and production coming in. Building Petra in Hattin started to turn things around, and I'm going to pump out a couple of settlers. I'm friends with Brazil, but not loving him there.
We haven't had a ton of playing time this week, but I'll keep everyone posted. It's looking like my most likely route to victory is once again religious, but my scientific output is climbing and with decent production I might have a chance in the Space Race.
Hi, is there any way to make the game bigger? I'm new to this, and I bought the game on sale on Steam. I have a MacBook Air M4, and when I launched it, the buttons were this small, even though full-screen mode is enabled in the settings. Can you please help me? Thank you
I have multiple questions regarding AIs and how they go to war:
I only play Prince difficulty as of late. Do they declare war on me, or just denounce me all the time? I haven't seen an AI declare any kind of war against me excluding those that i initiate.
Is there a way to stop AI friends or ally from attacking City States i'm a suzerain of?
If i participate in a joint war offered by an AI, will they be able to make peace with the enemy before I do? Leaving me battling the enemy alone.
Thank you!
Bought two codes for the DLC’s, forgot i already owned them🤦♂️. My shithead friends don’t play, so i figure someone might have some use for them here.
Please comment or message or whatever if you’ve used them so i can take down the post after, not waste anyone’s time

Because naval units cannot travel over deep ocean until cartography, the geography of any particular game can easily bottle up my navy and limit the amount of good it can do. Protecting settlers/trade and helping to promote overseas colonization/expansion? Can't really do that until cartography. Waging war against a far away overseas competitor? Can't do that until cartography. Circumnavigation? Cartography. When naval units are restricted to coastal waters only, they can quickly become stuck and unable to reach any new islands/continents or even any rival players
I seem to find contradicting sources on this. We play Gathering Storm with all expansions online on small continents, I happen to have made zero ranged land units so far and my brother is besieging me. Will my ranged strength default to 3 or will it be my best ranged boat?
