How does a city determine which tile it will grow on next? Can you override the default choice?

Here Shendu grows into two 0/0 tiles first and second times. Then on grow 3 it chooses a 5 tile. Why does it do that and can you change it?

Me and my Ride or Die

It’s Hammurabi and Gilgamesh versus the world. Deity, Pangea , huge map, abundant resources, legendary start, disaster level 4, barb clans, heroes, monopolies, and secret societies. I am loving vampires this game. They are king at pillaging.

It would be awesome if Apostles had an Alert option like war units.

I would love to place an Apostle on alert in enemy territory and it wakes up when he sees another Apostle or Missionary, like you can do with war units. As it is the only reliable method is hitting skip turn every turn to put eyes and see if there’s anyone to commit religious combat against.

Photos 2 and 3 are showing Paititi National Park with a fence around the park, a fire tower, picnic tables with picnic baskets, trash cans, visitor center and flagpole, signs, and port-a-potties. Love the details.

Should this be an achievement?

I built The Statue of Liberty and The Golden Gate Bridge on the same turn and next to each other. I’m Emperor Alexander and only have one capitol to conquer.

Before buying a trader choose the city you want to send it from and buy it there.

I buy traders in cities I don’t want to trade from just because I see the option to buy a trader. Only afterwards I’m like duh! I should have bought it in my city with Torre de Belem and started my trader there.

Help me choose my spy’s promotion.

Joaquin has Technologist and Siphon funds promotions. Now I choose to promote him with these choices. I believe disguise will have the best returns possible, however that does me no good if he dies during a mission. What would you choose?

What are the stages of a volcano erupting?

I have lost a lot of units when they were close to a volcano and it erupted and killed them. Today I learned that volcanoes have different graphics for different stages of eruption. Two stages I have found are erupting and active. So far I have learned that “once active, beware — an eruption could occur at any time.” I can move a unit next to an erupting volcano and not take damage. The civilpedia does note that eruptions damage features and structures in adjacent tiles neglecting to mention any settlers, builders, warriors etc take damage or vanish completely.

I notice whenever I have a settler heading somewhere and a disaster happens to kill them there is no notification that you lost a settler because it died to volcano or flood or fire etc.

The citizens of Tsageri

They have willingly entered my civilization six times so far this game. +2 era score every time. I can’t keep the city even with a governor and old god obelisk.

Supreme leader of this planet.

What is Pedro smoking? Who let Tamar get 18/20 diplomacy points and leading an aid request?

Turn 1 decisions.

Turn 1. I’m on a hill next to a river and I see Paititi. Those give me +4 era score. I can choose a governor immediately or wait for voidsingers. Tech tree I choose astrology. This is a marathon game, deity, Pangea, disaster 4, secret societies, barbarian clans, abundant resources, legendary start, huge map, Eleanor of France.
Turn 3 a barbarian scout found me. My warrior out of reach. On turn 6 I found the barbarian camp and my neighbor Cyrus.

Thoughts after my first marathon speed game.

I only ever play standard speed games. This game I chose marathon speed. Deity, huge, Pangea is my preference but I change up settings and civs.

At this speed I love that my combat units are relevant for much longer. This was a very refreshing change of pace, especially so on huge maps when traveling to an enemy can take awhile. I also had more time to fight before enemy walls go up helping a lot too.

Barbarian camps seemed to appear way more often at this game speed. Sometimes this was a hindrance destroying one camp for another to appear on the other side of my Civ. Eventually I looked forward to them appearing for the bonuses I get from destroying them.

As Hungary I began focusing on domination and diplomacy and switched to science/ diplomacy once domination stalled. I never made it to flight before winning diplomacy.

For World Congress in 545 turns there was never a vote to award or take away diplomacy points. I won some votes and lost others. What really secured the bulk of my victory points was aid requests.

There were a ton of aid requests this game. Despite many civs participating I often would win 2 diplomacy points just for gifting another Civ as little as ten gold. Why was there so little competition here? In standard speed games I might have to gift 1k gold or more to win.

I think my next marathon game will be as Montezuma to see how many slaves/builders I can capture.

Trying to survive and thrive.

I’m between Mongolia and Babylon. Deity, huge Pangea map, marathon speed. What I do have going for me at the moment is I have the most military might. I found a relic in a goodie hut and I chose religious settlements to get my second city, and my first city is next to Paititi. I’m going to try and conquer the nearest Mongolia city, and Babylon is getting walls now so there’s that. City state wise I haven’t earned enough envoys yet and I have Amani chilling in a city state waiting to suz and levy. My best win condition might be diplomacy I think.

Three weeks, three trips, 9 national parks?

Hi all,
I have June 22-27, June 29-July 3rd, and July 6-10th off and I’m planning these three trips. My home base is Manitou springs, CO. Each trip starts and ends there.

Week 1. June 22 drive to Theodore Roosevelt park North Dakota and camp. 23 - visit the park. Night of 24 camp at Custer state park. Day 25 hike Custer state park. Squeeze in visits to jewel cave national, wind cave, and Mount Rushmore. I have to be back in Colorado by the evening of June 27.

Week 2. June 29 drive to Yellowstone. July fourth evening I need to be back in Colorado. My goals this week are visiting/camping Yellowstone and grand Teton.

Week 3. July 6 drive to white sands national park. Goals this week are to visit here, big bend, and Carlsbad caverns. I need to be back in Colorado by July 11th evening.

I’d love to hear any recommendations for adjustments to my itinerary. I haven’t booked any campsites yet but I like dispersed camping if it is an option. Our first interest is tent camping in the parks, second car camping is an option for bad conditions. Also cabins or hotels in a cool town are also welcome.
