Finally made the jump from Kindle to Kobo! What are you reading this weekend?

After years of using a Kindle, I finally took the leap and switched over to a Kobo and honestly, it feels so good to officially leave the Amazon ecosystem.

To celebrate, I decided to dive back into Hogwarts for a full reread of the Harry Potter series on the new screen.

What’s currently on your screen (or physical page) this weekend?

Steam games running terribly on M4 MacBook Air, am I missing a setting?

Hi everyone,

I’m new to macOS and Mac gaming. I recently got a MacBook Air M4 with 24GB RAM, and I’ve been testing a few games.

So far, native/non-Steam games seem to run great:

  • League of Legends: over 100 FPS with all settings enabled
  • World of Warcraft: over 80 FPS on medium/high settings

But when I tried some Steam games, the performance was horrible:

  • Hollow Knight: around 28–30 FPS, with lows around 10–12 FPS
  • Hades: basically unplayable, even on low settings
  • Hitman World of Assassination: also unplayable on the lowest settings

This feels very strange because I expected Hollow Knight and Hades to run easily on this machine, especially since LoL and WoW are performing well.

Is there some macOS setting, Steam setting, or Apple Silicon option I need to enable? Could Steam be launching the wrong version or doing something weird with graphics?

I feel like I must be doing something wrong, because these games should not be running this badly on an M4 MacBook Air.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
