Mirena IUD experience

I just had a mirena IUD placed on Friday. It SUCKED but I’d love to share what made it easier for me.

For context I’m mid 20s, nulliparous, placed solely for pain control as I don’t need contraception. Diagnosed via lap in 2021. Located in BC Canada.

-I’m fortunate enough to have access to a naturopathic doctor (private pay) and this made a big difference, I wasn’t rushed and the whole experience felt much more personal.
-I didn’t drive myself there/back and I took the following day off work. Really glad I did as I was really crampy.
-Inserted on my period so my cervix was a bit more open.
-My medication protocol: 200mcg misoprostol inserted vaginally 4 hours prior, 1.5mg lorazepam 2 hours before, 440mg naproxen + 500mg acetaminophen 30min before. Penthrox and a cervical block (injected lidocaine) during.

I hope this helps someone! The only thing I would do differently is bring a heat pad if possible since my drive home was about 45 minutes.

SOS: Can’t make socks fit

I knit my first pair of socks for myself nearly a decade ago. Since then, I’ve just assumed they’re uncomfortable and hard to get on for everyone. Alas, I’ve made them for my wife and that is not the case.

The pattern that fits most of my foot/ankle is 56 st on 2.25mm.

I believe the issue is my instep. It’s approx 28cm measured around my heel diagonally.

The socks I’ve made are really difficult to get on over my heel and tight around my instep near my ankle. The ankle still tends to be a bit slouchy once on.

I’ve tried the following heels:

-FLK
-Afterthought (including over more than 50% of stitches)
-Flap and gusset (including increasing heel flap up to 40 rows and adjusting accordingly)

Please help. I’ve frogged my last sock 6 times in an effort to get the heel to fit right.

January-March in Whitehorse

I will be spending late January-late March in Whitehorse as part of a healthcare practicum. I’ve lived in the Okanagan my whole life and never been further north than Prince George - so I’m super terrified and super excited!

What kind of winter gear is required for this time of year? I don’t own much beyond a pair of snowpants.

What’s the car rental situation like? I haven’t decided if I’m going to drive up or fly and rent a car. A car is required for my practicum.

Can’t wait to experience your beautiful territory 🫎
