Would this song be considered goth or goth-adjacent? And why or why not?
Just to give context: this song is "High Society" by Madonna, which was recorded back in 1981 before she became massively popular. And although she is now regarded as 'the Queen of Pop' and is mainly known for mainstream pop/dance music, Madonna used to be part of New York City's first wave punk scene, and she was also a member of the post-punk band, 'The Breakfast Club.'
So would this song be considered goth or, at the very least, adjacent to/influenced by goth? Or is it more new wave or post-punk or just simply punk (the song has very strong political commentary on wealth inequality and alienation)?
