MWO advice from a cadet newb... and new mechs/tactics are tried... just what n00bs and vets love...

I love the archer(gladiator). I have both the tempest and jaime now. And believe it or not, i do not run lrms on either.

I am sticking with the group (PUG). I am jockeying for positioning(s) as best i can. I'm equiping ecm (yes, i know it's not an unvulnerable umbrella) and ams to help everyone around me. But it usually ends up in either a f2f brawl that i just overheat and die in (yes, i know i can override that), or a map that my team just gets sniped to death in.

So, the experience gap is still noticable.

I get it, knowledge is power. I come from other old(er) games where experience beats exuberance every time (Planetside 1&2, WoW, =v= online). You don't just jump in and win.

Enter the new mechs and tactics.... Roughneck Bolt and Marauder(zentradi officer pod) Blight.

Roughneck Bolt: THE BEST VIDEOGAME NPC IN THE GAME. BAR NONE. [Better off Dead ]"Go(shoot) that way, really fast(accurately). If something gets in your way(or shoots back), turn." [/Better off Dead]. 4x ac of some sort and a shit ton of ammo for [Goodfellas] "F U PAY ME" [/Goodfellas] play. Can easily upgrade from there depending on your level of caring.

Marauder Blight: Feel like being a little bit more involved and not dieing because of late drops, lack of teamwork (understandale in PUGs), and same team afk'ers (or even TK'ers)? This is your mech. Can do what the roughneck bolt can do, but better.

So, as a cadet newb, to other cadet newbs, or people that just need to be reminded, instead of getting frustrated, go back to basics and start small. Or, if you prefer, to quote Harry Callahan, "A man's got to know his limitations."
The roughneck bolt (re)taught me to concentrate on the basics. Positioning, aiming, and info. The marauder blight has (re)taught me integration of the above with further simple weapon progression.

If you are new, or are getting burned out, try going back to the basics. It's SUPER easy to get lost in the weeds or stuck in a rut. Build a bare bones basic mech and try again.

It might just surprise you.

I'm a gun enthusiast, and a term that applies aptly is "Aim small, miss small." Or, if you prefer, to quote Harry Callahan, "A man's got to know his limitations."

I really am a wolf's dragoon.... Itano Circus it is!

LOVING the game so far!

Is it just me, or are clan missiles a little 'tarded? I'm really tired of a couple missiles out of every other salvo just spiraling into the dirt or off to nowhere.

Also, i'm just not diggin' the jaime clan archer. There's always something that just doesn't synergize weapon wise, especially the 'tarded missiles in every other salvo, and it was driving me insane. By comparison, the Nightstar's been great though, wonderful mech. Not my true love like the archer, but it's always ready to plow enemy mechs with loadouts that work for me.

So, i bought the tempest archer and hot damn! It's literally everything i've been trying to do with clan archer all along. Everything just syncs. It's amazing. Best part is, i can still hang my last set of wolf's dragoons cockpit items in it even!

Oh, and the itano circus inner sphere missiles get is just icing on the cake!

So, to those that suggested the tempest in my last thread here, i am sorry, you were right. Not trying to diminish the suggestions from those that voted clan archer, but for my playstyle, the tempest is the way.

Brand new geezer player looking to start and initial plan. (Dons firesuit)

So, the BS:

I've never played mwo (closest would be ((walking)) war robots on mobile). I plan to download the game tonight (like within the next couple hours), and have (of course) done the newb thing and researched the ever living piss out of it and made decisions ahead of time.

"The plan":

I'm going to splash some cash and buy a hero archer (robotech gladiator to piss off everyone. Yes, i'm that old to have watched both on broadcast tv) and simply be a remora to others as i learn how to play. The archer allows me to offer long range support, close range support, or a retarded mix support. I'm not seeking the glory of topping leaderboards, i just don't want to suck so badly I cost my team matches simply by existing. From there i can focus more on where i want to go.

The question(s):

Which hero archer do i buy? Tempest or Wolf's Dragoon?

Piggybacking off my "plan", i want to go full newb(retard) and use ppcs/plasma cannons of some sort, ecm, ams, tcomp mk1 or mk2, and either srms or mrms (hero mech dependant).

The results:

While i completely understand there's going to be an overwhelming urge to post about how i'm doing it wrong and what i should do instead, I would greatly appreciate simply recommending which of the two hero archers to buy and some loadouts based on what i've posted.

If you've made it this far, thank you for whatever you post, really.

**EDIT TO ADD**

I ended up going with the clan archer once i realized it could be bought on it's own. Thank you all for the replies and feel free to continue to do so!
