Pre EPA stoves and smoke

Long story short, I’ve wanted a wood stove forever and I’m finally in the process of lining my chimney and cleaning up a Kodiak 70’s ish wood stove. I love the old style for the look and simplicity and I’m not too worried about efficiency as it’s not planned to be my main source of heat. My only concern is not completely smoking out the neighborhood when I burn.

From my understanding once you get a good handle on the air controls and make sure your wood is well seasoned you’ll still get some chimney smoke but very little. With a proper burn how much smoke are you guys getting?

Advice for dog paw care

2 year old springer spaniel who

Long story short as I can make it my parents recently got a salt water pool and my dog was able to go swimming in it yesterday. When we got home later he acting a bit off and after some investigating we found that the calluses on his center paw pads had peeled around the upper edges where they weren’t as thick due to not making as much contact with the ground. There was no open wounds but all laws were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with sulfodene being applied just to be absolutely safe.

We think due to being in the water it softened his paw pads and combined with running on the concrete he basically gave himself a pedicure? No open wounds but without the normal thick calluses his feet are more “sensitive” so he’s really feeling the rough ground and taking just time to get around? No pain when you handle the paw for cleaning and he still runs just fine when you throw a ball for him or he hears dinner.

My real question is we pheasant hunt so getting his calluses healed and keeping them thick is important to me to avoid injury. Would something like musher’s secret before he goes swimming help avoid the softening of his paw pads for prevention and daily use of tough foot to help rebuild what he lost and maybe prevent more callus loss make sense?
