VMCAS Essay

Hi everyone, I’m applying to veterinary schools this cycle and I was wondering if anyone here could read my VMCAS essay and give me feedback. I still need to cut out a little over 900 words as it’s over 3000 however I’m having a hard time figuring out what I should cut and what I should keep in. Thank you!

Not enough hours

I am currently applying to multiple veterinary schools in the United States. My only issue is that I have very little veterinary experience. I have 160 hours of shadowing and working with a few veterinarians. I have about 20 ish hours shadowing a PHD scientist and over 200 hours volunteering at a wildlife rescue. My gpa is 3.59. I could try and cram in enough hours between now and September to get over 200 hours but I’m not sure how that will go as I’m working full time.

Realistically what are my chances of making it past application submissions? I’ve been hearing that most people are applying with over 1,000 hours of veterinary experience so I’m feeling a bit discouraged.

For reference I am trying to shoot for the following schools but am looking to weed some out:

Clemson university Harvey S. peeler Jr.
Arkansas state University
Lincoln memorial university in Knoxville
Louisiana state
Midwestern university
Mississippi state
North Carolina state
Ohio state
University of Florida
University of Missouri
University of Pennsylvania
University of Tennessee
Virginia-Maryland college

Fee waiver questions

I’m applying to veterinary schools this fall and am wanting to apply for the fee waiver.

My only issue is that I did not work in 2025 therefore I had no income to apply for taxes. I know they want a tax form from 2025 however is there a different route I can take?

I am a dependent on my parents but both are on disability and not working therefore they did not file taxes last year as well.

Help with homemade grinds

So I have three ferrets that I’m switching to raw grinds. I’ve decided to make them as is much cheaper but I need help clarifying if my math is correct.

For ferrets the weekly diet breakdown is as follows:
5% liver
5% other secreting organ
10% heart
10-15% bone
65-70% muscle meat

Can anyone with experience making grinds look over my recipes and check my math please.

Thank you!
