What's your thoughts on a PS6?

I'd like to know where you fall on the prospect of a PS6?

- Can't wait for it.

- Happy with your PS3/4/5 for now.

- Will get it in a few years.

- Won't be getting one.

- Something else.

What's your thoughts?

Have you made plans for next-generation?

We're currently in the PS5/ XBOX Series X generation, we know next year the XBOX Helix Dev kits are going out to developers and the PS6 has recently been "taped".

Since the PS3 generation PlayStations have released every 7 years. The last XBOX released 7 years after. 7 years is next year, so it's highly expected we at least hear about the consoles next year.

On that basis have you decided what you are going to do?

If yes, will you be:

  • Sticking with what you've got?
  • Moving up an iteration e.g. PS5 to PS6 or XBOX Series to Helix?
  • Going to a different console?
  • Staying on Switch?
  • Playing Retro?
  • Moving to PC?
  • Buying everything?
  • Something else?

Does Platform Tribalism make sense?

When it comes to gaming platforms why are people so tribal?

Some thing I've never understood is: "I'm changing console", or "XBOX now, not PlayStation", or "PlayStation now, not XBOX" or "I'm a Nintendo guy", or even "I only play PC". I just don't understand Tribalism; why can't you be everything you can afford? You know, there doesn't always have to be one?

Surely, it makes sense to play everything you can afford? Or, at the very least respect games for other platforms? Why not get the best experience playing game A here and game B there? Why can't you just play different games on different platforms?

What are your thoughts on Platform Tribalism?

For those planning to buy a PS6 after the recent news, what will your game buying strategy be now?

We're hearing from people leaving the platform, what about the opposite side? What about the people who are going to get a PS6?

Do you currently buy physical games and plan to buy more digital? Or will you keep buying physical until the end?

Have you already converted to digital and this is just a continuation for you?

What's your strategy going forward from the PS5 generation going into the PS6?

Physical player total from Sony's reported data - is Sony making a BIG mistake?

I'm reading this morning that Sony has 125 million gamers and it has a 82% digital download ratio.

I'm not going to jump in and make assumptions here, like a Video Game Journalist may do. 😜 But, 18% of 125 million is still 22.5 million players.

If there are 22.5 million physical gamers out there, ready for the taking, aren't Sony taking a **massive** gamble here?

---

I'm sure in reality it's much less, but even so, Sony has to be taking a big risk, right? They're surely banking a large proportion of those 18% of players are going to move over to digital?

Even if we remove the emotional side out of this where we're upset. Surely, logically, this move given all the data they've published out there doesn't make sense right now?

Gaming & buying on a controller - console vs PC

Hi there!

I'm curious to know what everyone's experience is of their console games when compared to PC (If you've tried) particularly with the controller?

With all the physical disc backlash and everyone saying they're switching over to Steam, I thought it would be a good idea to try PC against PlayStation and compare.

Now, one thing people often say here is PCs work well with controller you easily seamlessly transition, so I'd like to hear your experience there?

----------

My experience with the Steam app from yesterday and today is as follows:

(1): I bought 3 games off Steam Sale yesterday (The sales are gone today 😢) and found the following:

- Initial boot up is good and you can transition and launch your games easily.

- It's a really nice store to navigate, I ran into performance problems. It got randomly slow at times. But overall not bad.

- Sometimes the controller buttons just stopped working (Dual Sense controller). Then it would bounce back a minute later.

- When I watched videos on ingame trailers and would go back it got stuck in the top and bottom bars. I couldn't figure out how to escape it properly in the end.

- Also, I wasn't sure how to see my headset & controller battery within Steam. They just died when I was gaming 😜

- It ran okay, not as quick and swish as PlayStation in the menus. But for a bolt-on it wasn't too bad. Steam is certainly good, but it could definitely do with some improvements.

(2): Then launching & playing games, starting with an Indy game (Keeper from Double-Fine):

- It ran pretty well. I had to enable access with mouse though, but after that one click the gaming experience is good. But man, needing a mouse to click one button seems silly, I'm shocked I can't do it with controller. But still, that's just 1 thing!

- When my headset & controller battery ran out I didn't get any notifications it just died. But no biggie I just replaced them. On PlayStation I can much more easily see the menu, so they could do with improvements there.

- All in all the Indy game ran well. As well as it would on my PS5 Pro. I do have an RTX5070, no idea about the FPS, just sitting down as a gamer in a chill state.

(3): Then I tried AC: Blackflag!:

- I was sat down all excited, I could not wait for Blackflag! Pre-loaded, got it all installed with the controller ready to go!

- Then that dreaded popup of launching the game for the first time with the one mouse click came. So that made me sad, it ruined my excitement, however, that was the same with the Indy game, okay but acceptable.

- Then Ubisoft wanted to link things, I couldn't use the controller like I could on PlayStation. I had to get up off the sofa and use my mouse and keyboard.

- The it wanted to update drivers, which I had to use the mouse to. Again PlayStation nicely does it through the UI. I had to get up again after being all comfortable. Slowly ruining the first-play mood.

- Then after ten minutes of wrangling with the mouse and keyboard I got in and played. That experience put a massive downer on the first session. I'm sure subsequent ones will be good though!

----------

In conclusion, in my experience the games run well when you've got everything setup & installed. The Steam app itself in Big Picture Mode is passable, but there are still some frustrations there. You might find yourself annoyed and frustrated at first coming from a console.

It wasn't a easy, seamless experience like PlayStation is. But it's an okay second-class citizen if you have the patience to persevere with all the problems and slowly resolve them (I didn't solve them all, but I'm sure there are solutions). There's certainly friction, but you can make it work with some difficulties. I would advise having at least a mouse nearby, especially with the initial setup with *any* game.

What do you guys think? What's your experience been when you've tried gaming with the controller and without mouse & keyboard on PC compared to console?
