100,000 and counting! We have to pushed even further!
Signed up the petition now to keep pushing: https://www.change.org/p/don-t-kill-the-disc-tell-sony-to-keep-physical-playstation-games
We made it to 100,000 signatures! But it's not enough, we need to push it even further as 250,000 to 500,000. Maybe a million, help us to fight against PS6 to stop becoming all-digital console.
Has there been any credible leak about the PS6 CPU and GPU performance?
Has there been any credible leak about what the PS6 CPU and GPU will be comparable to on the PC side? I'm curious what desktop CPU and GPU people expect it to match.
Genuine question about digital game ‘boxes’ in stores
I see many posts about the loss of choice as far as pricing, but won’t they still have boxes with digital codes in store? Meaning a store could still charge a discount on games that’s different from the PS store?
I know that doesn’t fix the ownership aspect of it, but I’m just wondering if that’s being overlooked. I don’t remember Sony saying they’ll have no presence at physical stores, just that it won’t be on a disc anymore.
What new innovative features do you think PS6 controller will have?
What changes would you want to see happen for PlayStation's Digital Storefront during the lifecycle of the PS6 and could you see PlayStation making their own version of physical Game Key Cards once the PS6 releases?
For me, some of the obvious changes I would love to see is:
- a wider refund window of at least 2 hours
- the guarantee that our digital purchases can be resold to either other players and or back to PlayStation for wallet funds (the wallet funds option may have to have a limited time attched to it considering what PS wants to do to prevent spam refunds).
- more free demos for 1st Party and 3rd Party games
- game sharing of already purchased games amongst online friends
- the ability to connect a PS5 Disc drive to a PS6 in order to have a free of charge physical to digital license transfer (considering a PS5 disc drive cannot be attached to a PS6, even though I think they have a good chance of still being compatible)
- and clearer options to ensure most, if not all, of our digital purchases can be played offline
Now obviously, much of this does come across as wishful thinking to some people considering Sony's super recent actions of removing purchases without refunds. But I belive in those such cases of digital purchases being removed, and other pressing issues related to digital ownership, focusing on advocacy for digital purchase rights laws will always be more important to me than juat simply assuming nothing can be done to get Sony to make sure that our digital purchases do deeply matter to us.
When it comes to whether or not I can see PlayStation creating their own equivalent to Nintendo's Game Key Cards, I'm leaning more towards yes, I can definitely see PlayStation doing something like this. While obviously not as popular nor as wanted as traditional physical games, GKC's enables players to still trade, resale, and gift thise types of games to other people without any sort of digital storefront restrictions. I can see PS creating something very similar to the PS Vita cartridges as their go to form factor for in-between physical games for both the PS6 and for even the rumored new PS Handheld.
Speculatively speaking, this also may in some way allude to PlayStation's commitment towards continuing to sell their games through multiple retail stores that was stated twice in threir blog about no more physical discs. This would likely also mean that any post 2028 PS5 games may either be simple gift card like plastic cards or paper codes in cases though, assuming PlayStation does not want more than one cartridge SKU for any crossover games.
But of course, all of this is just my speculation and ultimately hopeful ideas for what I think PlayStation can and should at the very least consider doing. Call me naive, but I still do have at least a little bit optimism for the future of this industry, even though that future is looking to be somewhat more digital than purely physical.
Ultimately, we're just going to have to wait and see what PlayStation decides to do next.
I think Sony's logic is that people who are price sensitive and dependent on cheap physical discs cannot afford a PlayStation 6 in the first place
To quote the great Harvey Dent "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
With all this talk about getting rid of physical games, so many gamers are saying they will make the switch to PC (which funnily enough, is mostly a digital store anyway). The games who actually enjoy the accessibility of a digital store, along with the constant deals on some great games are now traitors? PS plus is incredible value for the amount of games you can play and i for 1 can't wait for the PS6. I normally play a game, if i enjoy it I will complete it and if I enjoy it enough I will go for the platinum. After that tho, there's very few games I will play on repeat. I can understand why people are upset about no more physical games but should I, along with many many others boycott our playstation because a select few gamers can't get thier own way. You would have to be nieve to think that it wasn't eventually going to go this way anyway. Ideally yes, there will be digital and physical games and id definitely vote for it in that case, but from a business point it's an absolute no brainer from Sony. So I guess what I am saying is, to everyone who is fully digital now, I guess we are the real enemy?? I would dread to think of telling them I also use Spotify and Netflix/other streaming sources for my other media consumption....
How funny will it be if Sony announced that this Monday that Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst would be leaving PlayStation after the company announced that they would be stopping making disks and PlayStation would go back to making disks how funny would this be if this happened?
So if both of Sony ceos were forced to resign after the massive backlash they gotten over the ending disc to PlayStation future consoles including the PlayStation 6 debacle would this be the most funny thing on the planet and guys one more thing what's your opinion on the ps6 not having a disk drive as well.
my thought about ps6 in 2028
ps6 will be:
- ps5 pro 1.5
- no disc
- ps6 games will be same as ps5 games expect it's platform key
- 1000$ (probably going flopped than wii u)
What is the point in a physical PS6 console now?
Surely if all the games are digital then you only need a controller and a streaming connection? What's the point in having expensive local hardware that will quickly go out of date?
Are yall actually switching to PC?
I keep seeing this everywhere now, but how many people are actually gonna pull the trigger, I made the jump to PC back in 2024 before the price hikes, ran me about $2300 l assume that same build is probably in the 3k range now, my ps5 ended up becoming a dust collector, so if you have the money I feel like you should make the switch now.
Is there any chance Sony's farewell to physical media is an optional disc drive for PS6 that plays every playstation disc EVER from 1994-2028?
hey guys, i understand this sounds too good to be true but what if sony gives us one last gift in the physical media world and PS6 has an optional disc drive that can play every playstation disc ever made region free? ps6 will be powerful enough to emulate the cell cpu from ps3 so we could have every generation of playstation emulated on one box. if sony did this i would forgive them and buy the ps6 at launch (even for 1,000 dollars). what do you guys think? do you think sony would do this for us fans? i own a TON of playstion discs from ps1-ps5.
Can you imagine PS6 with x4 MFG?
I don't think Sony would dare to compete with PCs at this level. But a PS6 whose baseline power is close to an RTX 5080, maybe let's say RTX 5075, between 5070 and 5080 and with x4 FSR 4.0+ MFG would be wild to see and even better than my RTX 4090 PC.
On youtube there are barely any videos on the current day's MFG because people don't like to see MFG has negligible artifacts 99% of users wouldn't notice, while on top of it no longer having input lag added to the game like it once did. It's a mature tech now that is implemented laglessly.
I can log in right now in Neverness to Everness or Cyberpunk for example, turn on modded MFG through DLSS Enabler and get lagless x4 and x6 MFG working without issues and massively improving gameplay smoothness.
But Sony, idk, they don't inspire me with confidence that they want more than 60 fps for their consoles. But maybe they'll surprise people with MFG as an optional feature.
PS6 what I think will happen.
PS6 will launch Nov 2027.
Price will be $1000.
By 2030 the Ram prices will have come down a bit and they will reduce the price to $800 to make it seem like we are getting a good deal.
Disc drive sold separately for $100
Digital AAA games will go up to $80
Plus PS will go up too.
Sony will try to squeeze as much money as they can out of existing users.
Sony will be forced to sell their games outside of the Playstation store after losing a court case.
THE REAL PHYSICAL NUMBERS
The real numbers are out
And as shown half of the gamers choose physical
I am not against the digital gamers i respect what they choose same respect what we choose
Soo they are lying on the numbers
And still sony is silent from 2 days not even a post in any social media
They will lost there consumers to maximize there profit
I've owned a PS2, 3, 4pro, and PS5... would I buy a PS6?
A giant curvy subscription box that keeps doubling in price. It won't let you easily use discs, mods, or play most custom servers. I feel like that's asking a lot just to play a few cool proprietary titles in 2028. Pure luxury gaming. Now with NO HD Blu-ray player.
I've owned a PS2, 3, 4pro, and PS5. Even a dualsense edge controller and a media remote...
But I wish I would have spent my PS5 money towards a gaming PC instead, and will likely make that switch before ever buying a PS6.
It's difficult not to notice all the games I still can't play:
🎮 7,000+ PS5 games vs 130,000+ PC titles
I'd say I have a right to my opinion as a long time PlayStation supporter. If I weren't also a Mac user I would have probably sold my PS5 already.
Whas the point of upgrading to a playstation 6?
What would a PlayStation 6 even offer outside of better hardware? It's just the same console again, only now with fewer options. I am genuinely curious what they could even do to make upgrading from a PS5 worth it when they're taking features away.
PS6 and Helix will be the last traditional consoles.
Losing disc drives shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I know it sucks it has finally happened but anyone paying attention knew the day was coming. Now with the costs to produce a console skyrocketing because of ram, gpu, and hard drives the next step will be here before ps7 is released.
What's coming next is the cloud-based streaming device/console. This shouldn't be news to anyone either, but the point is as bad as it is to lose discs, this very well may be your last real console to purchase before everything is streaming. A cloud-based console will at least be cheaper to purchase but it definitely will be a streaming service to play the games.
And people blaming sony or the big greedy corporations are really just proving they do not understand basic economics. It's the same kids who think mcdonalds is purposely charging $8 for a mid burger by choice. They know they have no business charging that but it's not up to them to decide the costs to produce the burger. Sony even sent out internal memos saying they need their games to stop costing $300+ million to produce.
This will likely be end of the console era with ps6 and helix. The ram, memory, hard drive shortage isn't going to be solved in the next 10 years. Just have to accept that. By the time sony and microsoft are developing their next consoles AI will be exponentially more capable than today.
The future is
AI frame generation.
AI coding agents.
Cloud-based console.
The only unknown is what will this do to multiplayer games especially FPS or anything competitive? You'll need upwards of a 10Gbps line to have consistent performance using cloud. This upgrade is coming to the consumer but as far as how ubiquitous it will be is unknown.
Videogames are still, by far, the absolute best value for dollar per hour of entertainment. Don't forget that. If you don't support ps6 you're only hurting your own entertainment options in the long run. If you're ok with small indie games then sure, those will always be around on PC. But if you actually like games with 20+ hours of gameplay in immersive worlds then you will have to support them being made because they will require $100+ million-dollar budgets.
It's very likely sony will partner with a lender and offer ps6 on 24 months, 0% interest loan for $40/mo like how apple sells their phones. You don't have to like it, but you do have to accept it if you want games like spider-man or God of War to continue to be made. This is the reality you live in now.
Here is a tip for you to stop wasting money and improve your health;
Eating 3 meals a day was a marketing scam created by big business just like the corrupt food pyramid from the 90s. It picked up in the 1800s when people were working 16 hours a day in a factory, so they needed fuel. When the 8 hours workday became a standard in the mid-1900s the "3 square meals a day" marketing went hard so people would continue eating. Your body doesn't need that much food per day, nor did it evolve to handle it. People used to eat dinner around 2pm...
Stop wasting $20+ eating 3 meals a day. It's unneeded and unhealthy. It will be hard at first because of the cravings but after a couple weeks your body will adapt, you'll get full eating one big meal around noon. Do this one thing and not only will your health improve, but you'll easily be able to afford a ps6.
