Theory: data centers will be the future of gaming compute.
I recently acquired a PlayStation Portal, and I’m truly impressed by the cloud steaming ability for titles like CyberPunk 2077.
With data centers nearing or surpassing their own compute requirements (as evidenced by Xai’s leasing of compute to Anthropic), it seems plausible that we might eventually adopt cloud gaming, leveraging the immense computing power of these centers.
If the pipe dream is every NPC is truly autonomous using AI, than I assume that level of compute will not be available locally for a long time, meanwhile, using cloud gaming and data center compute could bring this to pass in the near future.
It also makes sense economically as these data center companies will need to find new customers for their ever expanding centers as token cost decreases over time.
What do you all think? 🤷♂️
