Is there any way to make the PS Portal wake up faster?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using the PS Portal more lately and there’s one thing that’s driving me a bit crazy: it takes way too long to be ready.

With something like the Switch 2, you press the button and you’re basically back in the game almost instantly. I know the PS Portal isn’t exactly the same kind of device, since it depends on Remote Play and the PS5, but the waiting time still feels pretty rough. Sometimes I just want to play for 10 or 15 minutes and the whole process makes it feel less convenient than it should be.

Is there any kind of proper sleep/rest mode for the PS Portal that makes it wake up faster? Or any settings I should change either on the Portal, the PS5, or my network to make the whole startup process smoother?

Also, feel free to share your tricks to make the PS Portal run more smoothly in general. Things like Wi-Fi settings, PS5 rest mode options, router tips, connection tweaks, or anything that has helped you reduce lag or improve image quality.

I really like the idea of the device, but I’d love it to feel more “pick up and play” instead of “pick up and wait.”

Bringing my Portal to Epic Places Part 2 (Krabi)

The bugs won't stop me from Playing some games...

(But the iffy WiFi in this Valley will)

First pic was in an Onsen.

What's the places you brought your Portal to and someone said "you should enjoy the view instead"?

First game on the Portal

Slay The Princess seems like a perfect game for this, so it will be my first on the Portal

Love the custom button stickers

Just got my flaming toast button stickers and I absolutely love them! Good quality, very affordable.

Feels good to press as well, doesn't mess with the button feel at all.

Anybody else use these??

Any tips on how to get a good PlayStation Portal connection?

So for the last few years, I've been deeply behind on many video games. So for these last few days, I've been planning to play my newly bought PlayStation Portal in my car for my 1 hour lunch break at work so I can catch up. I just need to make sure that my connection is good for me to do this at all.

When I finally tested the Portal's connection in the parking lot using my work building's public wi-fi and my phone's hotspot, both of them gave me pretty bad connection. Either 480p or 720p, latency lag, very small bit of static noises, bad connection notification in the corner, screen sometimes doing some type of glitch effect, unconnecting me from the wifi or hotspot, and my portal crashing and unconnecting me from my PS5.

I'm just trying to think of anything I can try to do to get a stable connection. I really don't know if there's anything else I can do to make playing in my car work.

Links from users that have swapped Joysticks and were satisfied.

I’ve noticed a few more vocal people in the comments of a few posts chiming in about swapping joysticks with Hall Effect/TMR ones and mentioning that they were happy with the quality of the sticks they received.

A year or so back I swapped my shell out for a transparent one, and while I had the Portal stripped down I considered upgrading the joysticks - but I got mixed reviews from individuals that had ordered sets and most said they ended up dissatisfied with the ones they received.

Anybody that has completed a swap with satisfying results care to share their links for where they sourced them? Also appreciate anybody that cares to share a negative link to warn anyone to stay away due to a bad set.

My father is often in the hospital or at rehab centers away from home, would the Portal be usable at those locations? He has a PS5

Title pretty much says it all. They aren't very well off so I provide a lot of the games for him by sharing my account or "buying the game because I want it" and letting him play it. I dont want to invest $300 if it won't work or barely work. I have looked into the product info and it says you have to be on your "home internet" but other things say its just any wifi network. So I guess my real question is how does it actually work? Can he use it anywhere with wifi easily? He is older and not tech inclined so Im hoping its a simple process.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Finally joined the club!

I’m enjoying it so far and I’m honestly looking forward to bringing it with me to play when I’m away from home!

How much does cloud streaming improve the experience?

so i have had my portal for almost 2 years now and to be honest i haven’t used it as much as i’d liked to have. currently i am playing saros but the input delay/lagging at times makes a game extremely frustrating to play on the portal.

so i am just curious how much cloud streaming with ps plus premium would improve my experience on the portal. my ps5 has a wired connection as well so when i do play games without cloud streaming on the portal its okay but when it comes to quick trigger/ reflex games, it can be frustrating.
