DIY vs Paid Landscaping Projects: What was worth paying for? What did you regret?

We’re about 2-3 weeks a way from finishing up a pool project. Our yard is completely torn up and we’re using this as an opportunity to reset. We’re going to have a mixture of rock and cactus, wildflower gardens, crushed granite paths, and some buffalo grass. I need to replace some gates and put new small fences to block off pool equipment and sheds and the like.

I’m sure if I paid someone to do all of this I’d be paying $10k+

  • New gates and equipment fences (plan to sub out)
  • Plant one palm tree (plan to sub out)
  • Mulch in all flower beds, tree rings, and patchy areas (DIY)
  • General flower and planting (DIY)

Undecided:

  • Modify gutters for rain barrels and reroute run off to mulch beds under oak trees
  • Level dirt and lay sod
  • Black metal border installation around rock gardens.
  • Replace loose rock borders with stacked cut limestone border. About 50-75 linear feet around flower beds and trees
  • 10x50’ crushed granite to replace heavy traffic side yard
    • Is weed cloth underneath necessary?
    • How deep is a good idea?

Has anyone replaced ClickUp with something simpler and AI?

I'm now to the point where we are just using ClickUp for task management and time tracking with hierarchies of Customer (Folder) > Project (List) > Milestones (Task) > Subtasks. I was tired of waiting on better portfolio views so I used Claude to build a dashboard. Everything else like notes, chats, forms, etc. We've moved to other tools because of either poor performance or missing features in ClickUp. My external dashboard load really slow which I think is because of CU's API.

Is there a simpler task management existing tool that has an efficient API? I'm thinking I may be better off using AI for reporting and to integrate into the tools we have migrated to.

Another reason to stay with Bear

I did it. About every 6 months I play with another note taking tool and within a few hours I find a reason to go back to Bear. I was messing with FSNotes which actually looks good for some use cases but I noticed some missing features. Then I read the aggressive FAQs... Ok. I'll stay with Bear and keep waiting for full Panda. https://fsnot.es/faq/
