Vegan Dogs Sold Out!

After reading so many articles about vegan food cratering in popularity I figured I'd have no trouble getting some 4th of July stuff, right?

Nope! Field Roast Stadium Dogs sold out, Impossible hot dogs sold out! I had to visit an actual store, like a caveman, and see what they've got in actual stock. Three stores down and nothing so far except some Lightlife dogs that I think people aren't huge fans of.

Going to check out a whole foods nearby and see what they've got. I think there's some Beyond Italian Sausage I can get there, maybe.

For being such an "unprofitable" and "unpopular" menu item they sure seem to fly off the shelves!

Concord Grape Trellis Design Question

Because of the janky placement of the grape we inherited (right up against the patio where a corner cuts diagonally across) I needed to create a corner trellis.

My posts are three 8-foot 4x4's set two feet into the ground with a gravel base. Approximately 5 feet from each other. 6 feet extending up from the ground. Where should I put the top wire?

I probably want to go a few inches down from the top, but I'm not sure how far. Some designs include a cross bar on top, but it didn't seem universal, and my family really wanted pretty caps, so we got some, but I'm not certain about stability.

Also because of the extra post this might be plenty secure, as the weight is spread across three 4x4's, and I could be worried about nothing.

Job Boards for Non-Construction PM Work?

LinkedIn seems to have the best diversity of job postings, while ZipRecruiter seems to be 99% just construction-industry roles. I'm pretty sure I should just delete it from my phone, it's only construction or similar.

My work as a PM has been in media, creative, and non-profit fields, so I was wondering if there's a better place than LinkedIn to look for work (I'm currently looking) in non-construction industries? I can find roles as-is, but you never know; maybe there's a way better place to look than where I am now.

Happy to add more details if necessary.

Asked for my personnel file, got a 2.5-inch-thick binder of double-sided printouts of my screen logs -- WTF?

Let go from my job because of "restructuring" without any performance complaints, and you should always ask for your personnel record, so I did.

I got three copies of the employee handbook, my job application paperwork, emails from the one time I got chewed out for not being in office when nobody else was and I didn't realize I needed to be there to sign for a package (it wasn't discussed or asked of me) and a huge whopping file 2.5 inches thick of my personal ChatGPT account, Gemini Account, and conversations with co-workers on teams.

Utterly shocked. I was never doing anything unprofessional, except bitching about my bosses when they made my life miserable with their micromanaging, but this is a truly insane revelation. I thought I was being paranoid.

We use AI in the workplace so that's not a breach, and I didn't have an expectation of privacy, but this isn't an IT log of inputs, it's screenshots, some with circles or boxes added to highlight sections. Horror! I thought it was bullshit to make me do clerical work and pull me off my main accounts! Shame! I wanted to position myself for a promotion!

How much time were my bosses wasting watching me do MY job instead of theirs?

I had recently talked to an employment attorney when I left because the severance they offered required me to do so. He said I might have been misclassified for most of my last year there, as my duties and responsibilities did not demonstrate much discretion, independence, or respect for my judgment. Apparently, he might have a point!

Tragedy! Fat Squirrel broke my stem?

Came out to start work on my trellis and was horrified to discover the bud-bearing new stem of the grape I inherited had been ripped off and into pieces, apparently?

Is this a known issue, or something that grapes do, or was it really the result of something falling?

My kid swears she didn't do it and she's not destructive or a very good liar, so the only thing I can think of is that a big fat stupid squirrel broke it falling off the squirrel feeder I had nearby. They had pulled the whole corncob out of the feeder and may have beefed the landing.

The break is so new the wound is seeping water, poor thing, and I wanted to make sure there's no sense trying to tape it back on.

The only good news is that this grape has several big stems because the owners, as they moved out, chopped it down to stumps as a favor. I nearly wept when I realized it, they didn't ask first and it was after signing, but the board here was right and it survived.

I've plopped the broken bit into water and removed the fruit buds to prevent it from wasting energy. I could try to reattach it or just see that happens next, but I wanted to check in. I was hoping that the one that broke would be the dominant stem after this year but I guess maybe not. At least there's others.

Can you create Exempt Misclassification due to role drift?

Location: IL, USA

Under the Duties Test for Exemptions, employees become non-exempt if misclassified due to duties and responsibilities. But when these duties and responsibilities change over time, how does this work?

I had an Employment Attorney tell me I have a case where I could be misclassified for the previous year or so. The discussion was regarding some termination paperwork I was asked to get reviewed. The attorney put a lot of big numbers out there, but I am worried about making the situation very hostile.

I was classed as exempt so I didn't have a timesheet, but I did personally track hours and document the redistribution of my time from mostly managerial tasks to mostly clerical work during a year long period of being short staffed. However, a lot of these terms like "discretion" and "independent judgment" seem very hard to define, and even broaching this at all feels like pulling the pin on a hand grenade.

I personally wouldn't recommend it to myself, except that this end of employment was very sudden, my wife is too ill to work, and we had just purchased a home to be closer to my work. The accommodations they've offered aren't stingy but I also feel like I'd be foolish not to negotiate if there's a legitimate concern there, which shouldn't have to be hostile, even though it likely would be. The attorney certainly thought I was being a bit foolish by looking for a 'nice guy' compromise position.

Gift Advice: Safe single-burner forge under $200?

Hey folks, I’m looking to surprise my wife with a small forge for her birthday. She’s a former "living history" smith who had to stop due to RA, but she wants to get back into small-scale hobby work in our shed and I'd like to avoid her developing The Black Lung or something by using coal.

I’m a total newbie and have two main hurdles:

  1. Health: I almost got one of the cheap ones off amazon before I heard scary stuff about the ceramic fiber insulation. Are there better options?
  2. Budget: Trying to stay under $200 as I’m currently between jobs as of a few days ago, but I don't want to be a cheap bastard.

She mostly likes to work on jewelry and small tools/hardware for our Victorian-era home. Is a decent, safe single-burner forge possible at this price? Any specific brands or "must-buy" sealants (Rigidizer/Satanite) you recommend for a beginner setup?

Thanks for the help!

I'm going to take it--I suspect this is going to be a huge mess to integrate as well as operate day to day, and I do not want to be on the hook for the fallout. I have not even heard of these yet, and from the brief intro I was shown I do not have great confidence in it.

Is this an increasing concern? I think this is just a bad idea, but who knows.
