First Alaska Cruise + First Time on NCL Encore — What Do You Wish You Knew?

Going on our first cruise in 10+ years and first time ever to Alaska. Also our first time sailing with on the. Would love advice from people who have done Alaska and/or Encore specifically.

Cruise details:

Embarkation: June 7, 2026 – Seattle
Disembarkation: June 14, 2026 – Seattle

Current plans:

Dinner reservations:

  • Teppanyaki
  • Food Republic
  • Onda by Scarpetta

Excursions:

  • Juneau – Mushers Camp
  • Skagway – White Pass Scenic Railway
  • Ketchikan – Guided Fly Fishing

Ports/schedule:

  • Seattle
  • Juneau
  • Skagway
  • Glacier Bay cruising
  • Ketchikan (Ward Cove)
  • Victoria BC

A few things I’d love input on:

  • What do you wish you knew before your Alaska cruise?
  • Anything specific about Encore that’s worth doing (or avoiding)?
  • Best food on the ship besides specialty dining?
  • Must-bring items for Alaska?
  • Any mistakes first-timers make in these ports?
  • Anything to know about Ward Cove transportation/logistics?
  • Best viewing spots for Glacier Bay?
  • Is the thermal spa worth it for Alaska?
  • How bad is motion typically on this route?
  • Anything you’d skip or do differently if you went again?

We’re pretty active and outdoorsy, but also traveling with family, so trying to balance adventure with not overbooking every port.

Appreciate any tips, random advice, or “don’t forget this” type stuff.
