Stadium Beer Math

Granted it’s better to enjoy the parking lot prior to the game, I can’t believe I just realized this Saturday that they sell $4.95 $4.50 12oz beers.

You can get three for the price of a tall boy.

12oz = $4.50
Tall boy = $18

Are the tall boys bigger than 24oz at the stadium?

Angels Prospect Austin Gordon in his last 7 starts: 2.20 ERA | 0.95 WHIP | 11.00 K/9

Gordon had a so-so first half of the season, but he's been an absolute machine for the Trash Pandas in the second half. Great to see from a guy who recently got bumped from our top 30!

The near future of Angels pitching is bright.

I posted recently about the Angels' window of contention opening in 2029, but thought I would go a little deeper into the pitching side of things now that we're all hyped up after Klassen's pitching masterKlass last night.

What does the near future of Angels pitching look like? Based purely off of our current players and guys in our top 30, this is how available arms shake out in 2029:

#Starting Pitchers

Active Roster

  • Grayson Rodriguez (ARB 3)
  • Walbert Ureña (ARB 1)
  • George Klassen (ARB 1)
  • Ryan Johnson (ARB 1)

40-Man

  • Mitch Farris (ARB 1/Rookie Contract)
  • Caden Dana (ARB 1/Rookie Contract)
  • Sam Aldegheri (ARB 1/Rookie Contract)
  • Jack Kochanowicz Injured, Tommy John (ARB 1/Rookie Contract)
  • Brett Kerry (ARB 1/Rookie Contract)

Thoughts: This list looks a lot better if Detmers gets extended, but there are good arguments for trading him and good arguments for keeping him. We won't really know what we have in G-Rod until next season - he's looked pretty bad this season, but the velo is still up and down years are common after Tommy John. A good example is Sandy Alcantara - he was brutal the year after his surgery, but has been great again this year, and I'm hoping for a similar arc for G-Rod. Kikuchi is absolutely gone at the deadline next year if the Halos can get anything at all for him, which will be great for shedding payroll and opening up roster space for another starter.

Top 30

  • Joel Hurtado (2026 ETA)
  • Tyler Bremner (2027 ETA)
  • Chase Shores (2027 ETA)
  • Dylan Jordan (2028 ETA)
  • Nate Snead (2028 ETA)
  • Mason McGwire (2028 ETA)
  • Barrett Kent (2028 ETA)
  • Trey Gregory-Alford (2029 ETA)
  • Johnny Slawinski (2029 ETA)
  • Talon Haley (2029 ETA)
  • CJ Gray (2029 ETA)

Thoughts: This is where things get really interesting. All of these guys give the Angels pitching depth and flexibility, which has been sorely lacking for a long time. Not all of these guys are going to make it, but there are enough impressive arms here to imagine that at least a few of them will become impact players.

Fringe Top 30

  • Austin Gordon (2028 ETA)
  • Eybersson Polanco (2028 ERA)
  • Peyton Olejnik (2029 ETA)

Thoughts: It's nice to have some solid pitchers outside the Top 30. Gordon has been on fire lately and may pitch his way back onto that list. I see Polanco as more of a spot starter/depth guy, but that still has value. Olejnik still has some things to work on, but has shown good overall improvement at High-A this year.

#Relievers

Active Roster

  • Samy Natera Jr. (ARB 1)
  • Luke Murphy (ARB 1)
  • José Fermin (ARB 1)
  • Sam Bachman (ARB 1)
  • Ben Joyce (ARB 3)

Thoughts: After months of dealing with an absolutely brutal bullpen, the Angels have found relief success with a good group of home-grown guys. Joyce is an obvious difference maker, but Natera has definitely been the breakout pitcher of the group. Murphy, Bachman, and Fermin are solid middle relief options, especially if that can benefit from the new focus on pitching analytics.

Reliever Prospects

  • Najer Victor (2027 ETA)
  • Nicolo Pinazzi (2027 ETA)
  • Camden Minacci (2027 ETA)
  • Chris Cortez (2028 ETA)

Thoughts: There are some really good relief arms in the system. Victor, Pinazzi, and Minacci are strong candidates to break camp with the team out of Spring Training next season, and will likely be called up during the season if they don't quite make the cut. Cortez has a tremendous arm, but struggled as a starter - he'll most likely find success as a back-of-the-pen type of guy, but needs to nail down the control.

All this to say, and we still have two more years worth of amateur and international drafts, not to mention trade options. Organizational pitching depth hasn't looked this good in a long time, and I'm excited to see how things develop over the next couple of years, especially with the young guys being able to take advantage of the new pitching facilities in Arizona.

Most enjoyable Aug-Sep Angels Baseball in years

I'm honestly enjoying late season Angels baseball for the first time in a long time.
Yes, the team has been playing better lately. Ureña, Detmers, and Klassen have been giving us consistent starts, Trout is surging again, and we're finally getting some of our guys back from injury. But for me, it's more than that.

Ever since one of the most active trade deadlines we've had in years, these games have felt different. Not because we're chasing a playoff spot. We're still a long way from that. But for the first time in a while, it feels like we have permission to have fun watching this team in August and September because there's genuine hope.

Hope that the foundation is finally starting to take shape. Hope that a few smart moves this offseason can make us a much better team next year. Hope that we can at least go 13-22 for the rest of the season to avoid our first 100-loss season.

I feel like I have those reasons to tune in every night and cheer these guys on. The games matter again for me, even if not in the traditional postseason sense.

Maybe I'm just coping after years of Angel trauma, but I haven't felt this way about an Angels team this late in the season for quite a while. I hope I'm not the only one, and I hope we finish this season with a different feeling than we've had in recent years.

Taking a 4 YO to his first game

My 4 YO son is finally interested in going to a baseball game. I don't go to games that much since I am a pandemic transplant. That said, I have been following Angels closely since I moved to the OC. I want to make going to Angels game a father and son bonding activities for my 2 boys.

My question is how can I get cheaper front row tickets? Teams don't matter since I just want him to be able to enjoy going to a game. I also don't expect him to sit through the whole game so I don't want to spend too much.

The 100 sections tickets for the Twins game (Sunday) next month is ~$50 on 714 Tickets. Is that a fair price for a late season game that doesn't matter at all?

The cap this guy wants will only make him spend less on the team than he already does.

Kyren Paris

Came across a treasure trove of his cards. Just curious if anyone thinks he’s going to be something? I know he got drafted a while back but he’s still super young and still playing triple A ball from what I’ve seen on instagram. I know once he was called up he hasn’t done much from what I’ve seen stats wise. Is there still a future for him?

[Lineup] 8/18/26 vs Astros: George Klassen starting. Same lineup arrangement as the lineups against the RHP Royals' starters. Grissom takes 2B over Frazier.

Giveaway + Special Event Ticket, do you get both?

On the August 30th game, there is a giveaway for a football jersey, as well as a special event giveaway for a USC jersey. If I purchase the special event ticket, will I receive both jerseys?

Reasons you became an Angels fan for non-locals?

So I know most people either grew up in the area or had a parent that was a fan of the team which caused them to start following the team.

I have neither of those. In fact, how I became an Angels fan was due to pure chance and is possibly one of the stupidest reasons to become a fan of a team that I can think of.

When I was younger I followed football almost exclusively (Packers, family is all from Wisconsin) but I also followed basketball since my grandpa would sometimes take me to Suns games since he was living down in Arizona by then. I didn't have a baseball team to follow.

So 5 year old brain me decides, you know what, I need to fix this. I collected baseball cards and decided that I would randomly select a card and I would follow that team. I don't remember who the player I picked but low and behold it was an Angels player and I have followed them ever since. I also decided to pick one for my brother which ended up being the Blue Jays and they shortly after won back to back world series.

I followed them pretty loosely but didn't end up start watching games until the season they signed Mo Vaughn. I remember getting really excited for the season and the first game Mo Vaughn falls into the dugout injures himself.

Taylor Ward!

Got to meet Taylor Ward in his new colours today at the SEA @ HOU game. Nicest guy and wish him the best. Was a big fan of his with the Angels and hope he does well, no matter where he goes!
