I'm currently looking to replace my Monitor Audio Bronze W10 subwoofer with something bigger - I have some room, and I'd like to have a deeper grunt (i.e. lower frequencies) - and there's only so much you can get out of a 10" woofer. Budget-wise, I don't want to spend more than AU$2,000 (~US$1,450), and it's mainly for home theatre purposes, not much for music.

When browsing around for potential replacements, I came across this clearance item: Monitor Audio Vestra W15 Subwoofer - Matte Black - Open Box | Space Hi-Fi

While I'm not married to Monitor Audio, well, at least not for a sub, it looks like a compelling offer within my budget.

I mean, I'd have to go deep in my pocket for something comparable from RSL, SVS and KEF.

I think there are two potential downsides, however;

500W amplifier
Large housing

I think I can live with the amplifier; my wife doesn't like loud audio in general, and since my main aim is to achieve those low notes (which I can't with the BW10), I think I'll get them at a sufficient power level without the whole room shaking violently. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The main thing holding me back is the rather large housing, but again, for the same specs (15", ported), I'm looking at subs that cost at least two, if not three times as much. Even if I'd go down to 13" subwoofers, I'd be looking at least another AU$1,000 for something comparable. Any advice?

Lastly, the reseller mentions it's an open box - anything that I need to keep in mind for that?
