Anyone else feel out of touch after their first Bilmuri show?
First, let me say I love the music, and the community seems amazingly connected and supportive. But after seeing them live, I feel more like an outsider than I did before.
GANG! and The Home Team were definitely not bands I would choose to listen to again, so that left me with a little of a guilt-by-association feeling at first. I had access to a nice terrace for the Cincinnati show, so I actually went outside and enjoyed the view for most of The Home Team's set.
When Bilmuri came on, they sounded great. High quality show with amazing lasers, lights, energy, sound, the whole nine-yards. But a lot of the interplay between John and the crowd felt like memes I was too old to get. (I still do not understand the whole "hog cranking" thing.) Like when I make the mistake of going to happy hour with 20yos at work, they talk in a whole language I can't comprehend.
The whole crowd had a different vibe than I'm used to at concerts. For example, lots of girls were wearing leather boots and or stockings with garters but with RealTree camo hoodies. I couldn't figure out if I was at a My Chemical Romance or Florida-Georgia Line concert. Again, I am not judging them as being "wrong," I just felt like this was a new style that I wasn't clued in on. (Why does John dress like a 60yo Corvette driver?)
It reminded me of the time I was at a Jimmy Wayne concert. The crowd was almost entirely white, and I saw this one sole black guy and he said "Damn there's a lot of white people here for a Lil Wayne concert." He was making a joke obviously, but I felt that this week. I saw no one like me at the show.
I won't stop listening to Bilmuri, or supporting the community. Just wondering if any other fans had this kind of reaction to seeing them live?
EDIT: Just to add something about me, I'm a senior leader at a Fortune 100 company and retiring in the next 2 years. (So I can see more concerts!) I'm a country-club guy that won't even walk into his backyard without a collared shirt and trousers. I bought a jersey at the show because I wanted to support the band, but I'd never be seen wearing it.
