What kind of Bromeliad is this??

Hey all! Cactus person here who is exploring Bromeliads. What is the big stripy one??

My wife and I were struck by how beautiful the leaves are and when it flowered it had a beautiful red inflorescence with tiny yellow flowers.

It’s pupping from the middle now with 3 new babies. I know the momma will eventually die, but I’m super stoked it’s got 3x new ones coming in. It seems like differently types have different pupping behaviors too??

Appreciate you for taking the time 🙏🙏🙏

Wild Penicoereus Greggii

Found these beauties near my parents home in North Scottsdale. We were driving down the road in the AM and I noticed the humongous white flowers as we drove past. Couldn’t stop as we had an appointment to make, but I made sure to come back afterwards.

Was totally floored when I was able to confirm it. My understanding is that they’re both uncommon and cryptic so they can be hard to find. Still amazed I was able to locate these 2 in habitat. I love how gnarly yet delicate they look. The spines were quite short and blunt, so it was easy to touch. I can see how they could blend in seamlessly with the right companion plants and surrounding foliage. I missed the flowers in person but they looked massive in passing.

What a gift to behold!
