Experienced motorcycle mechanics: WHAT WOULD YOU DO HERE??
Hey everyone, I am in desperate need for some vintage motorcycle expertise as I have been struggling with troubleshooting for the last couple of months. I have a 1980 Suzuki gs1000L. When I would get it idling at 1-2k it would bog out at like 4k rpms, and when I would adjust it with the fine tune knob to where it would rev all the way out it would not idle at all and I’d have to constantly open the throttle to keep it running. Cleaned the carbs twice and got new correct sized pilot jets along with new pod filters. it also is normally backfiring out the exhaust but I don’t know if that’s from flooding and as I found out the other day it likes to backfire out of the intake occasionally. Brand new spark plugs, intake boots, battery and compression is good. Also should mention that while trying to start the bike with starter fluid, the pod filters caught on fire for about 5 seconds until I got the fire out but no visual damage. I know it’s a lot of info but If ANYONE can tell me anything I’m missing, or if it’s not worth fixing please it would be greatly appreciated
