Where are the bees?
There are so few this year. Is it the cooler weather? I have more flowers this year and decidedly less bees than the previous two seasons? Anyone else?
Seed-gated
I feel fortunate enough to have a local library with a large seed library, for which I’m thankful, but these aren’t the zucchinis I was imagining. What might they be?
SOLVED: Thanks everyone. Consensus is a round zucchini, likely an 8 ball. I appreciate the help! Happy Gardening
Thief in the night
Finally found which critter has been munching in my Malawi piquants. Which moth/butterfly would it have become??
Homemade Buns
Turned out pretty good. Soft and kinda similar to the rolls from those road houses in Texas.
18 g active dry yeast (I only had expired pizza crust yeast and it was still great)
240 g warm water (95°F)
73 g oil
50 g sugar
1 beaten egg for dough
1 beaten egg and a little water for egg wash
6 g salt
420 g bread flour
-mix and whisk water, sugar and yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes
-add in the rest and throw it on the mixer with a dough hook for 5 minutes, or until it’s smooth and springy (you may need to add a little more flour)
-split into six portions and ball them up real tight
-set to rest on your baking sheet with parchment paper and cover with a towel for 20 minutes
-turn on the oven to 425 while the dough rests
-after rest, brush with egg wash and bake for +/-10 minutes
So it begins…
Spotted our first maters today! I hope everyone has a high-yielding season. Cheers!
