Gladden on Doyle Alexander's pitches during 8/12 broadcast
Did anyone else catch the Twins radio broadcast on 8/12 vs Baltimore. What I believe I heard was Kris Atterbery asking Gladden about facing Doyle Alexander in the 1987 ALCS. If you recall the Twins hit one of the best pitchers going in 1987 extremely well. Costas had speculated about the Twins stealing pitching signs. Gladden seemed to confirm just that during the recent radio broadcast. He talked about a cameraman in CF relaying the catcher's signs to the dugout, and Alexander using a system to add and subtract via a leg shake and hat touch if he wanted to change the pitch.
The Twins knew this also which I don't have a problem with, but the sign stealing from CF was surprising. The on deck batter would then have a vocal pattern to the batter to communicate whether the pitch was to be a fastball or off speed. If it was a fastball, they would say, let's go Kirby or something like that. Off speed would be no communication from on deck to hitter.
Anyway maybe this is old news?
