89 Cadillac Deville coolant not returning to radiator:
4.5 Cadillac engine,
I’ve had it for a little while now put a couple thousand miles on it.
suddenly I realized that after you drive it,
Park it — and it gets cold, upon checking the radiator the next morning coolant never returns to the radiator from the runoff tank, which indicates to me that there isn’t a vacuum and I have a leak somewhere or something.
The radiator is low and the run off tank is pretty full.
I’m having a hard time finding somebody who will work on this old car even though I don’t think it’s that old, but I’m thinking about taking it to radair and wanted to know what all this possibly could be and what is the worst case scenario in the entire situation. I know for a fact, the head gasket is luckily not blown.
Could there be a small crack in the block or something worse?
I found the problem on my own after taking it to a mechanic who couldn’t figure out what it was who said bring it back when it gets worse… he told me it does hold pressure for over 30 minutes, but it did drop two psi, but then went back up.
How does my 89 Deville sound? — I want to daily drive it.

4.5 engine. Prior owner just had a complete tune up done because it was mis firing.
He did a coolant and heater core flush + replaced the thermostat and gasket.
Later did fuel filter and lines.
Then did the fuel pump.
So it’s had a fair share of maintenance from the last owner other than the oil changes etc.
I’ve drove this thing 100 miles or so since purchasing, it’s a little noisy under the hood but in the car it doesn’t sound as loud.
Anyways, my two questions:
I take back roads to work \~ 5 miles one way. It has a pristine body as far as rust goes. Other than an undercoat, how can I maintain the vehicles current condition and guarantee this can be my daily commuter. (100,00 miles)
Does she sound good in the video? She runs, drives & shifts great. Drove it hard and 80+ MPH when I checked it out.
It’s my dream car and I intent to enjoy it daily. What’s next?
I know it starts up a little slow, sometimes it needs a little help with the fuel pedal. Had this with a 2000 Chevy truck too. Wasn’t a huge deal.
Is this Coupe Deville a 1990? Also is this a good deal?
Seen this car on FB MP near me for only $3,000.
=====================================
Owner says:
Runs drives good. A lot new partsNew altnator belt. Harmonic balancerTires. Oil change tune up etc 3000 for the car firm.
- awesome. Noticed it has only 74,000 miles - even better but I have some concerns.
- That cluster is not from a 1990. What is it?
- Is the 4.5 that much worse than the 4.9? People sh!t on this engine over the 4.9.
- For the price, and miles - I can't complain but I see that it needs some cosmetic work. That vinyl cover in the back is pretty beat up. What to look for on those soft top vinyl's? How much $$ to fix, and do they leak?
Question 1 image:
That's not a 90 right?
In regards to question 3 and the vinyl:
It's like that on the other side too...

Always dreamed of owning an older Cadillac, for the miles and price - I'm understanding it'll need a little love, a little project car, but - I think it's a steal.
Best local mattress store?
Hi - I'm tired of buying Amazon mattresses and need to upgrade. Currently I've went through a few memory foam beds online that are inexpensive and they're just destroying our joints, my back and everything aches everyday. When we bought the bed it was great the first 90 days then it got super firm, my partner and I are in a lot of pain.
Anyways, I'm looking for suggestions on a few affordable but higher quality mattress stores. I want to spend $500-1000 (will prob have to spend $1000) - and be able to lay down and test as many beds as needed. I'm hurting.
So I'll go down the timeline of our bed buying and where we are now.
In 2021 we got a Zinus Spa Sensations Serenity 8" Memory Foam Mattress, Queen - these things are actually pretty good - lasted until late 2025 & we thought about buying another but a lot of posts said they don't make them the same.
Fast forward, we bought and quickly returned a Novilla Queen Mattress, 12 Inch Hybrid Mattress - didn't take long to realize it was awful. It sunk and it sunk deep, it didn't mold to your body at all.
In Sept. 2025 we bought the FDW brand 10 inch medium firm gel memory bed from Amazon, this thing was great until like February.
It got super firm on us out of no where and we wake up sore daily. Hips, back and sometimes knees are just aching. Tossing and turning when you try to sleep in past 6-7 hours. Mattress topper didn't do anything.
Did some research and tried/returned one of those Amazon basics bed. Just as firm.
I don't know what type to get anymore, gel, memory foam, springs, hybrid - IDK.
Two people sleep on it, no box spring, queen size, $500 budget. I am tired of super firm, I am tired of being sore. Seems like even medium firm is too much. We both weigh 150 pounds.
