H2o Youtube Channels - Why are all the episodes blocked from Australia?

This is an issue I've been dealing with for a while, to the point where I literally got a VPN just to be able to watch the episodes on YouTube for free, instead of having to scour Dailymotion just for a few bad video quality episodes.

This show was literally MADE and first released and made popular IN AUSTRALIA.

And I don't think it's just because of the area I'm in, because I used the VPN to set my location to every other listing in Australia.

My first assumption was it was because of the internet ban for kids, but neither of the YouTube channels, that I've found, have the H2o episodes listed as kid's content (at least I don't think so, because comments and floating screen are enabled) (fyi, that second feature of Youtube Kids is literally so stupid).

I just find it kinda unfair if the episodes are just blocked from Australia, because why are we getting blocked from watching OUR media, but the rest of the world gets to see it?

There are certain aspects of H2o that a lot of America viewers don't even actually understand, and just make fun of. And I'm trying to hate on them for that, because there's multiple aspects of American media I don't understand.

But H2o is an AUSTRALIAN show.

It's an Australian show that, at it's core, is meant to teach kids about protecting Australia's sensitive ecosystems that are constantly under threat (there's a good reason season 1 & 3 's major villains centred around developing and exploiting Mako Island)

Parallels of Evie and Charlotte, and Potential Foreshadowing (Warning: Spoilers for Mako Mermaids)

(Please forgive me for using a tiktok video, I couldn't find any gifs or clips of Evie first discovering her powers or any good quality ones of Charlotte)

(Also, if there's any option or not, please keep the audio muted 😅😅 It really doesn't work with my vibe here)

And before we get started, I will not be referring to the pod mermaids as 'Real' mermaids, I will be referring to them as 'born' mermaids or 'sea born' mermaids versus 'land born' mermaids, because it makes me irrationally angry when the MM mermaids are referred to as such, because I feel like it's disrespectful to my h2o girlies.

Anyway.

As you can (hopefully, if the video works) see, Evie first discovering her powers is a perfect (and likely very intentional) parallel to Charlotte first discovering her powers.

But this isn't their only parallel, and it may very well be probably the best bit of foreshadowing in Mako Mermaids.

As you may know, Evie was transformed into a mermaid when she was trying to protect Zac from losing his powers. (Honestly, I feel like Zac probably deserved to lose his powers, but that's abother discussion)

The born mermaids Mimmi and Ondina (mainly Mimmi) had made a potion that replicated the 50 Year Moon, which you may recognise is the SAME lunar even that took Charlotte's powers in h2o. However, when Evie went into the Moon Pool under the effects of the 50 Year Moon potion, it's explained (I think, I haven't watched that part in a while, but I think I remember it being mentioned) that while the 50 Year Moon will take a land born (emphasis on the LAND, here) mermaid's powers, a human TRANSFORMED under a 50 Year Moon will get 50 TIMES the power that a regular full moon would give.

So, to recount, Evie was made a mermaid under (essentially) the same lunar event that took Charlotte's powers. However, due to Evie being given 50 times the power of a regular full moon, she was essentially at the same power level as a born mermaid.

And, I feel like this was foreshadowing Evie's fate from the start.

Just like Charlotte, in the end Evie lost her tail, though the way she lost it was the complete antithesis to Charlotte.

Evie lost her tail protecting the one's she loved; being a hero.

Charlotte lost her tail attacking the guy she was obsessed with, and the girl he loved instead of her; being the villain.

They're (I believe) the only two characters we've seen lose their tail on screen. Each in their respective shows.

And before everyone starts screaming it in the comments, yes, I do agree that Evie, unlike Charlotte, didn't deserve to lose her tail.

But I do think that it was likely (at least somewhat) planned from the beginning of her journey as a mermaid.

The Siren Effect, and why I wish the Moon Spells/Fevers could have a lasting affect/ability outside of the Moon Pool

It would have been so cool if Cleo had kept her siren powers even after the full moon. Like, if she got this rare ability, separate from the core abilities of the Moonpool.

It also could have added some interesting conflict with her and Charlotte, with Cleo still having something that Charlotte doesn't, even after Charlotte has become a mermaid with all the other powers. And Charlotte would have fully convinced herself that the only reason Lewis liked Cleo was because of her siren abilities.

But, of course, Cleo would never use her abilities on Lewis, and would only very reluctantly use them on others (at least on purpose).

I feel like her having latent siren abilities would make so much sense, since she has a natural magnetism even when she was still very shy and insecure. So many of the male characters in the show seemed to have some level of interest in her at some point or another.

Gracie, Queen of haunting the narrative

One of the original 3 mermaids

Her locket was found on Emma's first dive back at Mako.

Best friend of Ms Chatham, and one of the main reasons she was so insistent on them staying together.

The love of Max Hamilton's life, and main reason he started his research of Mako Island and it's magic.

Charlotte's grandmother, and main reason she wanted to become a mermaid.

The reason Charlotte found out about mermaids in the first place.

Reason Max and the others knew about the effects of the 50 Year Moon.

My Opinions On Charlotte as a Character/Character Analysis, Part 2

Was Charlotte manipulative?

Short answer: Yes, but this is supposed to be character analysis and deep dive (lol), so let's try asking how and why first.

Personally, I'd say Charlotte was more spoiled and entitled than necessarily manipulative in the purest (malicious) sense.

It's shown through her interactions with her mother that Charlotte is VERY much used to getting whatever she wants (Lewis's birthday party).

Her mum's a very successful businesswoman, and as a result her family is very well-off and a bit snobbish. You could say that Charlotte is very ambitious and driven as a result, but more often than not she seems to just expect to be given whatever she wants, simply because she wants it.

She wants Lewis, she practically forces Lewis into a relationship (Lewis ABSOLUTELY should have been more upfront with his feelings and wishes, but Charlotte was also very dismissive when he tried to express himself).

She wants Lewis to spend more time with her, she turns off his phone and invites herself to Cleo's family camping trip.

She wants images of her grandmother that Cleo was GIVEN from Max/Lewis, she lies her way into Cleo's house, invades her bedroom and steals the tapes from her.

She wants to become a mermaid (both to connect with her grandmother AND make Lewis like her, because now she has the ONE thing (in her mind) that Cleo has that she doesn't), she goes into the Moon Pool and becomes one.

In multiple instances throughout she and Lewis's relationship (and before), Charlotte saw Cleo and the girls having things that she didn't: their close bond and friendship with eachother and Lewis, a mysterious secret that she isn't privvy to, pictures and tapes of her grandmother, her grandmother's locket, and finally their powers.

Throughout the show, Charlotte sees these things she doesn't have and tries to take them for herself, and if she can't have it for herself, she'll do everything she can to (subtly) dismantle it.

I do feel sorry Charlotte in some aspects. Lewis was a pretty crappy boyfriend to her, and Rikki (moreso than the other girls) was pretty mean to her from the start. But regardless of how jealous or insecure Charlotte felt, her actions went WAY to far.

Also: Why did she NEED to have that specific locket. It's literally already been shown that Charlotte was given a whole briefcase of things from Gracie (her grandmother, spoilers lol). Charlotte already showed WAY too much of an interest in that locket, before she had any idea who it had belonged to (she literally just snooped through Cleo's room and put the locket on. Who even does that?!), finding out it was her grandmother's just gave her a better excuse.

And besides, it was a FRIENDSHIP necklace. It symbolises the connection the girl's have to eachother, so why would Charlotte want it when she hates the other girls? Charlotte literally just wanted the locket because she knew it meant something to Cleo, and she wanted to hurt her.

And it also like I said, Charlotte was jealous of the close friendship the girls had, and wanted to take her own piece out of them, either in the hopes of shaking the foundations or as a way of getting a taste of what it feels like to have such close bonds.

Charlotte wasn't friendless. She was shown in Lewis's party episode to have many friends, but she doesn't really mention them or appear to hang out with them outside of the episode. She says she's known them her whole life, but then how does the friendship come off so shallow?

Thoughts and Opinions on Charlotte's character, and how she IS necessary to the plot, Part 1

(Some comments copied from MY Tiktok comments on this same topic (I have many theories).)

"Cleo vs Charlotte" & "Is Charlotte a True villain or just an antagonist?"

Imo, Cleo and Charlotte are kind of like two sides of the same coin, which is why I stand by my opinion that Charlotte's 'true' power of the three was hydrokinesis, like Cleo. Especially with the way she seemed to gravitate towards it most often (though, that could also be to antagonise Cleo, or simply because it's the most versatile of the powers).

But I'm getting off topic.

In my opinion (again), the best antagonist isn't the complete opposite of the protagonist, but instead their character is rather the extreme version, or the 'dark version'.

An antagonist takes the main characteristics of a protagonists and turns them sour.

Charlotte and Cleo are narrative parallels.

Cleo is caring, Charlotte is caring to the point of obsession.

Cleo is loyal and protective, Charlotte is possessive.

They're both a bit sassy and temperamental at times, but they mainly try to keep themselves in check.

They both struggled with an aspect of being a mermaid. Cleo was deathly afraid of water, and Charlotte was deathly afraid of dolphins.

Cleo is a bit naive and doesn't always think through her actions, Charlotte is dismissive (and, honestly, a bit delusional) and doesn't always think through the consequences of her actions.

Cleo's mum has just left, and it's implied that Charlotte's dad has left.

Cleo is connected to Gracie as a mermaid, Charlotte is connected to Gracie as her granddaughter. And to expand on this. Cleo and Lewis are obvious narrative parallels to Gracie and Max, but (and please don't hurt me for what I'm about to say) so are Lewis and Charlotte. Obviously Lewis loves Cleo far more than Charlotte, but my point still stands.

Cleo AND Charlotte have been describe MULTIPLE times to be very similar to Gracie, and their stubborness and their caring natures (don't at me, Charlotte IS caring, she's just also manipulative in her caring).

Cleo has also been shown to have an interest in art, though mainly in season 1 with her (imo) pretty impressive drawings that were showcased in her diary. Which further parallels and contrasts with Charlotte and Gracie.

Cleo and Gracie have also been described as a bit weird and mysterious, and Charlotte is as well.

To continue.

Cleo is jealous of Charlotte, Charlotte is jealous of Cleo. For their relationship with Lewis, and their connection with Gracie; two people they had felt a strong connection to.

They both love deeply.

There's probably a good reason Lewis dated Charlotte.

Probably because, in ways, she reminded him of Cleo.

Anyway, these are MY opinions and theories. You're welcome to disagree (and I'm welcome to tell you how you're wrong in the comments, lol).

Also, I hope you like the little collages I made, I had a lot of fun with them 🥰

My Theory On Why Charlotte Got All 3 Powers ☝️🤓

(Some text taken from comments made by ME on Tiktok)

I personally believe it wasn't because Charlotte was in there alone, but because she was there under a Super Moon.

Because ☝️, fun fact, every single full moon in the show actually correlates with the real moon cycles irl (at least when they've mentioned a certain date), and the irl date that was mentioned as the full moon Charlotte transformed under was an actual Super Moon, as was the full moon afterwards (the 50 Year Moon in the show). And technically the full moon that the girls were transformed under was an irl Micro Moon (Feb 13th 2006), which makes me wonder if that's affected their powers in any way (as opposed to if they had been transformed under a completely regular full moon).

It's canonical that the girls have grown stronger when they spend the full moon in the Moon Pool, so I wonder what would have happened if they had been in the Moonpool during the Super Moon (already as mermaids) instead of Charlotte. I wonder if they also would have been granted (more limited) access to the other powers of the Moon Pool.

The powers also align with each of the girls' personalities too, and I always felt like if Charlotte had been transformed under a regular full moon, she would have just gotten Cleo's power, as that seems to be what she naturally gravitated towards (Also, it was most likely Gracie's power too).

(I know the Wiki says the date she transformed was May 2nd, but I think that's wrong, since fans can literally just edit it however they want, and also that date ruins my theory so I've elected to ignore it 🥰)
