Anyone familiar with the geology of Khao Phing Kan ("James Bond Island") in Thailand? I've always been curious how this massive rock got turned on its side like this.
I found this in a creek in Bullitt Co., KY. At first I thought it was an edge of a hollow rock. But then seeing how it fit so well in my hand with the thumb indentation and the wear on the opposite side, I then thought it was a tool. But I've scoured the internet and can't find any tools that look like this, so now I'm back to thinking it's a rock.
Hello everyone, I apologize if these career-based questions get asked too much.
Long story short I'm 34 and a history major looking at going back to school. Been working at a nonprofit in various office roles. Bioarchaeology would have been my choice but not very good for career/financial prospects off the bat. Perhaps in the future I can find my way into that with ancient DNA or something.
I've been interested in genetics and hereditary for some time and am trying to chart out my next steps. I'm wondering what your thoughts would be on the feasibility of MLT/MLS as a start for getting into working in genetics. I would prefer to not be working with patients directly, so I'm thinking lab and research. I was concerned that a straight biology degree would be too broad to really lead to jobs right off the bat. However, from what I've read, I'm also concerned about hitting a wall if I don't have more education in things like statistics or programming.
Would love to hear your thoughts. Decent plan? Do you have better recommendations?
Amateur here, but I find things like strontium isotope analysis fascinating. But I am wondering how it will will work when those of us alive today are archaeological remains.
My understanding is that the strontium and other isotopes in the teeth from the food/water people were consuming can be analyzed to understand where they were living. However, today almost no one in my country (US) is eating produce or meat raised locally. It comes from all over the country and all over the world. Plus, we tend to drink treated city water or bottled purified water that is often from a source not local.
Will this affect the results of strontium or other isotope analysis when our remains are studied?
What are all these things? They were EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately for me, it was on federal land, so no taking home. 😕
