Falconclaw PTT impressions

I bought the new Falconclaw PTT (www.falconclaw.eu/product/falconclaw-ptt/)and used it for the first time yesterday. Thought I'd do a little write up of my impressions since it's very new to the market.

You can switch between compatibility with NATO or Peltor wired headsets using a switch on top of the PTT and there are various connection cables for different radios that are able to be swapped quickly, as well as an optional amplifier cable (the amplifier cable is included, radio cables are sold seperately).

There’s a microphone built into the PTT that you can switch to with a switch on the top of the PTT if you’re using a set of hearing protectors without a microphone. Falconclaw sell an uplead for hearing protectors with a 3.5mm jack and one for Peltor 2-pin.

And last but not least, you can connect the PTT to a phone via Bluetooth to use apps like Zello (there’s a second PTT button on the device for this) or to listen to music, podcasts etc.. The Bluetooth connectivity requires a CR123A battery, you don't need a battery if you're not using Bluetooth.

The price is relatively high but, in my opinion, fair for what you get: €173.74 for the PTT itself, €23.80 for a Kenwood cable (with German VAT included). Some of the other radio cables are a little more expensive, the most expensive being 6-Pin NATO and 9-Pin Fisher at 59.50€.

I used the PTT to connect a Baofeng PMR 88E and Comtac VIIIs using the included amplifier cable. The various features work as advertised (the only one I haven't tested is using Zello with the PTT because I don't use that app or anything similar) and the PTT button itself is well guarded against accidental pressing and is easy and comfortable to actuate. The length of the amplifier cable and radio cable combined has an ideal length for connecting to a radio mounted in the rearmost slot of a MOLLE cummerbund on a plate carrier. The included clip and MOLLE mount both seem to be high quality and work well.
