Did anyone else know Delta sells mixed-cabin itineraries like this? I honestly had no idea.

I’m genuinely curious if I’m the only one who missed this.

Back in January, I booked my family’s return flight from Hawaii directly on Delta.com. We intentionally paid more because we wanted to fly First Class home after a long family vacation.

A few weeks before departure, I noticed our Seattle → Chicago segment was listed as Delta Comfort+, while the Hawaii → Seattle segment was First Class.

I assumed it was a mistake.
After multiple chats, phone calls, and speaking with supervisors, Delta confirmed that the ticket had always been sold as a mixed-cabin itinerary.
So I went back through Delta’s booking process today.
What surprised me is that these flights appear under the First purchase column, but the fare is simply labeled:
Delta First
Delta Comfort

To me, that doesn’t read like a warning that one of my flights isn’t actually in First Class. If anything, it almost sounds like you’re getting Delta First plus Delta Comfort benefits, not that one of the longest segments is in a completely different cabin.

I clicked through the booking process again and couldn’t find any point where Delta clearly says something like:
Mixed Cabin Itinerary
Not all segments are in First Class
One or more flights are in Comfort+

If I had seen that, I absolutely would have either selected another itinerary or paid more at the time of booking.
Instead, I didn’t realize it until weeks before departure.

Delta’s solution was to charge about $510 per passenger to upgrade the Seattle → Chicago leg, even though First Class seats are still available.
I’m not saying mixed-cabin fares shouldn’t exist.
I’m asking whether Delta’s booking process makes that clear enough to the average customer.

Looking at these screenshots, would you have understood that one of your flights was not in First Class? Or would you have assumed you were buying a First Class itinerary?
