Strange activity at an abandoned building in downtown Tucson – Did I bring something home?

My girlfriend and I decided to test out our new equipment last night and check out Fort Lowell Park here in Tucson, AZ. It served as a vital U.S. Army post (1873–1891) during the Apache Wars, acting as a supply hub and home to the military hospital, and it was also originally home to a Hohokam settlement dating back over 1,000 years.

We used our EMF readers and spirit box. Fort Lowell is frequently cited for reports of 19th-century soldier apparitions and residual sounds of horses or period equipment lingering near the historic hospital ruins. Many who visit the site describe an intense, heavy atmosphere often attributed to the trauma and military history embedded in its crumbling adobe remains.

We went around 8:00 PM (the park closes at 10:30 PM). There were still visitors around and occasional dog walkers, so the environment was not as scary as I hoped. We walked the entire park. . We did get a few sudden, quick blip of the EMF from green to red, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.

In the middle of what is now a baseball outfield, we got to yellow. We were not getting much more than that. We accessed our spirit box, however, the radio station frequencies interfered much with the white noise, becoming more of an irritation. The yellow we received did give us some hope of connection being out in a field, but nothing else on our box.

We decided to go downtown to 6th Avenue and came across some old abandoned buildings. One was the St. Augustine Cathedral Religious Education Center, which is an auxiliary building associated with the Cathedral of St. Augustine, the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson and one of the city's most significant historical landmarks.

We walked around taking pictures and looking for a way to explore inside. Our EMF reader was pinging green to yellow to red as we avoided power boxes and anything else giving us false readings.

We had a breakthrough at the foot of the building’s steps. We had our reader hit yellow, and it appeared to respond to us asking it questions. The spirit box was no help again. We wanted more evidence, asking it to reveal its presence. The EMF reader jumped to red, we got a cold temperature drop, and we heard unintelligible sounds bouncing off the wall. We were in and out, responding through the EMF colors bouncing up and down. It appeared to enjoy our company, showing us that it didn't want us to leave. We stayed for over an hour and a half. We eventually had less and less response, said our goodbyes, and left.

After my other experiences, I wanted this to be authentic. My girlfriend was excited and made me feel more satisfied with our interactions. However, I wanted more evidence so I know I had my doubts.

This is where I needed the most input. We went to bed. During the night, I was awakened by the sound of something hitting our kitchen counter. Our cat was sleeping at the foot of the bed, so it wasn't her. I ignored it and fell back asleep.

My girlfriend got up to use the bathroom, which I was aware of later in the night. Then I was awakened by clear footsteps near our bed. It was so distinct, it sent a cold feeling throughout my body. I looked over and my girlfriend is sleeping. I quickly said a prayer before soothing myself back to sleep.

Later in the night, there was an uncomfortable temperature drop that typically doesn't affect me. I tend to run very warm, not ever truly needing a jacket.

I woke up feeling beat up. Like I slept but was on guard and running high all night. I explained my difficult night, but she didn't have a similar experience.

An hour later, I felt I needed a nap, not normal for me. I was given this name: Ronald. In my dream, my girlfriend was talking to him. I saw him in a picture but wasn't actually engaging with him in person in the dream. I asked my girlfriend if she knew a Ronald or Ron, and she said no.

My only thought after all this mind-Olympics was maybe this is who we tried communicating with at the abandoned school. Or is it nothing, and I'm becoming psychotic? Any thoughts?

The "Push-Pull" Effect: A visceral experience in the Jerome High School basement

I’ve shared my experience regarding the old auditorium at Jerome High School before, but I need to talk about what happened immediately after.

As the tour group moved on, I had to follow them down into the basement, right next to the boiler room. If the auditorium had an "intense" energy, the basement was something else entirely. It was pitch black, and the air felt heavy with a deep, dark presence.

My body started reacting before I even fully processed the room. My hair stood on end, I was covered in gooseflesh, and that "eerie presence" I’ve felt before was dialed up to ten. My survival instinct was screaming at me to turn around and get out of that basement.

But then, the weirdest thing happened: my logical brain took the wheel.

I found myself in this bizarre, involuntary tug-of-war. Part of me was terrified, I genuinely didn’t want to see anything in that dark space. I was physically recoiling from the atmosphere. But at the same time, I couldn’t stop looking. My eyes were glued to the shadows, desperately scanning, forced by some strange compulsion to observe what was there.

It was a total "push-pull" feeling within myself, the visceral fear of the unknown fighting against the clinical curiosity of the observer. I’ve always felt I had a certain sensitivity to these things, but I’ve never felt my own biology fight against my conscious mind like that.

Has anyone else ever felt that "push-pull" sensation when investigating a location? That feeling where your body is begging you to leave, but your brain refuses to look away? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The Bisbee Warnings: What Happens When You Ignore Your Intuition

Introduction

I am a healthcare professional with a natural sensitivity to spiritual energy, though I don’t usually rely much on technical equipment. Last month, my girlfriend and I were watching American Horror Story and got the sudden bite to take a spontaneous weekend trip to explore the paranormal. We decided to book a room at the historic Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee, AZ. What followed was a series of intense, unexplainable events that left us completely shaken, and I’m looking for feedback from the community on what we experienced.

The Warnings (April 18–19, 2026)

Our journey felt heavily resisted from the very beginning. Looking back, I completely ignored my intuition. The universe was flashing massive warning signs to stay away:

The Booking Roadblocks: We originally booked through Priceline. The next morning, the hotel called us directly stating they were overbooked and couldn't honor the room, though they offered a larger room at a higher rate. We accepted, but trying to cancel the original Priceline reservation turned into hours of frustrating customer service battles that almost made us call off the trip entirely.

The Welcome Song: After hours of fighting to get it sorted, we finally hit the road. The exact moment we drove across the town line into Bisbee, our car radio randomly switched on its own to a strange, old-timey, vintage station. A song immediately came on about a woman hanging herself. That was our welcome to the town.

The Cancelled Check-In: When we finally showed up at the hotel, the front desk told us our reservation was completely cancelled and there was no room for us. We explained that we had spoken to the manager personally. By pure luck, the manager was on her way out the door and was flagged down at the last second to manually confirm our stay. We finally unlocked the door to Room 209.

The Incident

It was "Mad Hatter Weekend" in Bisbee, so the town was filled with a surreal, chaotic energy and people walking around in bizarre costumes waiting for a mock "beheading." We headed out into the town, stopping at the Grand Bisbee Hotel Bar for drinks, and then went down the street for more drinks and some wings. We met some interesting people and the night continued in a bit of a blur.

On our way back to the hotel, feeling good, my girlfriend brought up the idea of doing a seance in our room. I thought it was a great idea and we started walking back.

Right across the street from the hotel, my girlfriend suddenly tripped and fell hard into the pavement. A police officer sitting next to his cruiser immediately tried to stop me from walking across as I tried to process what was happening and engage with someone walking toward me in a stupor. When I got to her, the sight was overwhelming. She was crying, bruised, bleeding from her upper lip, and her front teeth were chipped from hitting the street. The intense guilt of failing to be the protector I pride myself on, mixed with the shock of the situation, turned into a massive, burning internal anger.

The Confrontation in the Dark

We got back to the room. She didn't want medical help, but she was crying, exhausted, and just wanted to leave. Because we had been drinking, we had to wait for it to wear off, and she eventually fell asleep.

Furious and restless, I went out into the hotel halls alone. I was so upset by the situation that I started openly cursing and yelling out loud at the spirits, daring them to try and do something. I went floor by floor, looking to feel frightened because I felt so intensely strong and confrontational. What completely surprised me was that even though the hotel was completely packed that weekend, absolutely no one opened a door or came out to see what the noise was while I was yelling in the halls.

I made my way down to the bottom floor, which was completely dark and filled with old furniture. As I stood there, I heard a faint, slight moaning sound. At first, my logical brain tried to process it, assuming it was just guests getting busy in a nearby room.

But as I moved toward the front doors, the moaning sound actively changed direction and started getting closer to me. Suddenly, an intense, overwhelming wave of panic swarmed my entire body. My survival instinct kicked in, screaming at me that I needed to get back upstairs immediately. It felt as if something had literally run right up on me.

I ran up to the second floor and sat down in the well-lit hallway to try and process what just happened. While I was sitting there, a gentleman walked right past me without acknowledging my presence at all. A few minutes later, a woman walked past and went up to the next level, also completely failing to notice me sitting right there in the open. I finally went back into the hotel room, checked on my girlfriend, and fell asleep.

The Morning After

When we woke up the next morning, we were jarred to find that a little dresser in our room had been completely moved and opened while we slept.

But the final chill hit us as we packed up our things to check out. As I looked around the ground floor where I had been chased by the sound the night before, I realized a fact that blew my logical processing apart: There are no guest rooms on the bottom floor. It is strictly the empty front desk lobby, old furniture, and the saloon. The sound hadn’t been a guest next door; it was entirely displaced in an empty, dark hall.

Questions for the Community:

Has anyone else stayed in Room 209 at the Copper Queen or experienced auditory anomalies on the ground floor late at night?

Is it common in heavily active, haunted locations for loud, physical noises (like yelling in the hallways) to be seemingly "muffled" or ignored by a packed house of guests? It felt as if my voice was isolated.

When a paranormal trip faces massive environmental resistance before you even arrive, is that typically seen as a warning to stay away, or a sign that you are walking into a highly active environment?

For those who are sensitive, does experiencing a sudden physical trauma or intense emotional shock (like an accident) drastically amplify the energy or accessibility of a haunted space?

Jerome High School, Jerome AZ encounter

I got back home to Tucson this evening. I wear a silver chain that I have had for over 20 years. I took it off last night and put it back on this morning. Took it off tonight and it just practically fell off. I look and it's still clasped. It look like it had been pulled or jerked off my neck. I have no explanation and is the reason I'm sharing this story.

Just got back from Jerome, AZ after my girlfriend and I stayed Saturday night in the Jerome Grand Hotel. We stayed in Room 12, which was Claude Harvey's living quarters. This was verified by hotel staff and the ghost tour guide. Claude Harvey met his demise at the bottom of the hotel elevator shaft. He is a notorious ghost in Jerome. This is not where my experience occurred.

My girlfriend and I last minute signed up for a ghost tour, filling the last 2 spots. We were assigned EMF readers and spirit boxes. Our first stop was a parking lot. Truth be told, we thought it was a scam walking around in between cars with these readers. We were told the many parking lots were where structures previously stood before being burned down from multiple fires.

Next, we went to a church. We couldn't go in and walked around front. No hits in the equipment. We then went to the same building the ghost tour's office was in. The heading talked of arson and a drug/alcohol smuggler during prohibition. We were dared to go into a back corner but unfortunately, nothing.

The last stop was the smelter. A tale of burned bodies mixed with smelt creating the very concrete and asphalt that created buildings and streets. Literal streets of ashes of the deceased beneath our feet.

The tour came to an end unless you bought the whole package. We decided to tag along and pay the extra fee.

Next stop was the Jerome High School. The building was spooky from the outside. Entering felt eerie. Was told it was used for art studios and band practices in many different rooms. The auditorium was untouched and undergoing some repair.

After some history, the group started to move towards the stage. My EMF reader went from green to yellow. I was shocked and eagerly asked, "Am I alone?" No answer on the spirit box. I started walking more and it stayed yellow. I checked to see if my cell phone was running interference or the spirit box. I asked, "What is your name?" Then came "Wilbur." I asked to repeat and nothing. My girlfriend saw me stalling and came over to me. I heard creaking in the chairs slightly above where I was standing. I was afraid to actually see something there but there was nothing to see. I could feel it. When my girlfriend came closer, I could feel the presence behind me. I asked, "Are you behind me?" and no answer. My girlfriend told me we need to stay with the group. The EMF reader went down to 2 green dots.

She then started to walk away and the EMF reader went to orange then back to yellow. I said out loud, "I need to go." The spirit box said, "Don't leave." I freaked a minute trying to process what was happening. I started walking and the box says, "Don't." I kept walking and the EMF reader went back to one green dot.

I didn't understand what happened. We went downstairs to the boiler room which is another experience, and another room. Upon leaving, we went back through the auditorium. I said out loud, "I'm leaving, Wilbur," and my EMF reader went back to yellow. I couldn't believe it. As soon as we walked out of the auditorium, it went back to one green.

Afterwards, we went to the cemetery and I got nothing. Just saw a couple scorpions. The tour was over.

We returned to the hotel which is another story.

Has anyone else had physical objects tampered with after a Jerome tour? Specifically the high school?
