Brush strokes on hot coat

Brush strokes on hot coat

first hot coat after laying down fiberglass cloth

dont remember my earlier repairs this week getting these obvious brush strokes

any clue why? I’m using small cheap Amazon brushes, cleaning The brush in acetone between uses so maybe just need a new brush with fresh bristles? I figured it might level itself out as it cured but it did not

anyone ever use silicone brushes that clean easier? Cheers

Would you pay for your own Sommelier certs?

Been working at the same place for four years now, just a beach bar and restaurant that sells seafoods and typical cocktails. Owner all of a sudden decided to massively expand our wine list, building a new wine cellar and adding a 6 page leather back binder including wines of all varieties in the price range of 90 to 800 dollars. Anytime a customer has questions about the wine list I have to either fetch the owner or his son to answer them because I have literally not tried a single wine on the list that they order, nor do I have the knowledge to answer any questions. I’ve asked multiple times that if they would pay, I would at least go get my level 1 certifications to be a bit more knowledgeable in selling their wine that they bought. After being on the fence about it the first few times I asked, the owner finally said you’re a big boy who makes good money go do it yourself, and I asked him if he did not want to invest in an employee that has been here for four years to help them sell more? And he said no.

i still hate the fact when people ask me questions about this list, I’m ignorant to practically everything. Would you go and get the certifications yourself out of your own pocket? I don’t see any financial improvement for me personally, only for the owner. And I don’t see it as investing in my future because I have no intention of ever working anywhere upscale, I like my high volume beach bars. Opinions?

AITAH for having a coworker text me every time she gets home after work?

I (30M) bartend at a late night bar a couple nights a week and sometimes my female manager (39F) has to close the place alone. Even if all my work is done i stay late with her so she can properly lock up and count all the money and not have to be alone for it. Sometimes we don't end up leaving until 2:30 or 3 in the morning. We both bike to work, her house is ten minutes the direct opposite direction of mine so I don't go as far as escorting her home 20 minutes out of my way every night, but I do make sure that she texts me when she gets home just so some one knows. If I get home and showered and she still hasn't texted me, i text her, and if after five minutes she still hasn't replied I call her just to make sure she made it home, or else I'm like hey I need to go to her house or consider calling the police. Sometimes she forgets because shes tired or is in the shower too or something.

I keep all the texts receipts there but my wife says it makes her uncomfortable I'm talking to another woman so late at night even though I let her read my phone. I say that if something were to ever happen to her n her commute back im the difference between the police knowing within half an hour, to noticing within maybe 10-12.

AITAH?

UPDATE:

Gonna answer some common questions

No she has never asked me to do any of this, but she thanks me every night for not leaving her alone, and has never once implied the texts are unwelcome.

I have only ever had to call her once after she didn't reply to a text in over a year.

This happens only one to two nights a week, we're not open until 1 every night.

No, I would not do this for my 6'6 male bar manager. He also drives, and is infinitely less likely to have something bad happen to him late at night. Come on.

Usually only 5-10 minutes is how late I stay after my work is done.

I text my wife with updates to when i'm home, even though she is asleep but just in case she wakes up and wonders where I am. I also wake her up with some love when I crawl into the bed because she wants it

Do bar managers who can actually tend bar exist?

The restaurant/bar I've been working at for 4 years has been through three bar managers and just hired a new fourth one. The owner says he wants a bar manager who can actually bartend and hop behind the bar on busy nights to help with customers or service well, not just someone to place beer and liquor orders. At the end of her third training shift, and the new manager (with plenty of high volume experience) taking probably 4 minutes to make 3 drinks...Owner just gives me a side eye and a sigh. I told him he will never find a bar manager who can actually tend a high volume bar, especially not while paying 36,000 a year when any decent bartender could make plenty more than that behind the bar. They tried to talk me into taking the job after my first year but balked and immediately said no with no counteroffer when i asked for 55 grand and two months off a year. (beach bar, closed the whole month of January and february because no one comes in anyhow).

Am I wrong? I've been working in restaurants for 15 years and working behind the bar for 8, and I have only seen one bar manager capable of actually hopping behind the bar and doing a good job (and that manager was related to the owner, so i am sure they were compensated more than any other hire would've been).
