Do you genuinely believe women are more emotionally intelligent?
Context on me: AMAB, didn’t consider being non-binary until late 20s/early 30s. Raised by a single mother, overwhelmingly have women friends. Also AuDHD.
Women are certainly more properly socialized and have emotional education thrust upon them, but do you truly believe yourselves to be more emotionally *intelligent*? Just as there’s a difference between intelligence and education in general, I think the same is true for emotional intelligence.
In my experience, there isn’t necessarily a difference in how emotionally intelligent men are vs women. The biggest difference appears to be familiarity with the topic rather than outright proficiency. I mentioned being AuDHD earlier; the significance here being that I had to go through a lot of emotional education, and at this point I feel like I’ve pretty much caught up to the average woman. I’ve also known plenty of men who could intuitively understand social situations despite not being able to name specific feelings or concepts, just like I’ve known plenty of women who act as immature and petulant as any man despite having a full arsenal of therapy-speak to dig into.
Even further than that, I think a lot of women (not even half, but a significant chunk) cross straight into Dunning-Kruger territory on emotional intelligence because it’s constantly hammered home how much better than men they are in this regard.
So yeah, I’m just curious whether you believe your advantage in this domain is innate or conditioned? I typically try not to believe there are innate differences between the sexes aside from the physical attributes, but browsing subs like this makes that belief hard to maintain.
