Which R&B artists have been unfairly boxed into the "one-hit wonder" label?

Who's an R&B artist that people think only had one hit, but actually has an amazing catalog?

The mainstream may only remember one (or two) songs, but fans know they have deep discographies, multiple great albums, and plenty of overlooked gems. Who comes to mind?

What's an album that doesn't contain many of an artist's best songs, but still feels like one of their strongest albums?

Inspired by seeing someone describe an album as "their best album without their best songs."

I've thought about this for a while but never really had a way to put it into words. There are albums I think are incredible and maybe even among an artist's strongest works, but if I were ranking that artist's best individual songs, not many would come from that album.

That doesn't mean the songs are weak. There might even be one of their best songs on there. It's more that the album feels greater than the sum of its parts, and its standing in my mind is somehow higher than the standing of most of the songs on it individually.

What comes to mind?

Which artist has the most riding on their next album?

Maybe they're coming off a disappointing release, trying a new direction, returning after a long break, or simply at a point where the next project could change how people view them.

Whose next album are you watching most closely, and what makes it feel like such a big one?
