Is the film industry becoming impossible to enter for outsiders?
It genuinely feels like opportunities in the film industry are becoming more and more limited for people without industry connections.
The same star kids and film families keep getting chance after chance, even when some of them have delivered multiple unsuccessful films. You’ll often see a hero in his late 40s or 50s being paired opposite a much younger actress who is also from a film family. They romance, kiss, do intimate scenes, action sequences—basically play the same commercial leads over and over again.
Meanwhile, thousands of talented outsiders spend years auditioning, training, and struggling just to get one meaningful opportunity. Many never even get through the door because they don’t have the right surname or connections.
I’m not saying every insider is untalented or that every outsider deserves success. Talent exists on both sides. But shouldn’t everyone at least get a fair chance to prove themselves?
Do you think the industry is becoming more closed to outsiders, or do you feel things are slowly changing?
