AHHHHHHH! It’s impossible to read the oil on my dipstick for a 4th Gen 2022 Prius Prime
AHHHHHHH!!!
I just bought this 2022 Prius Prime XLE with 29,000 miles.
Before I bought it, I checked the dipstick “hmm seems low“ I thought to myself. In all other aspects the car was fine, so I bought it!
I of course immediately add a little oil to it.… still nothing. I’ve emptied an entire quart into the engine no. I still can’t see anything on the dipstick! “oh no this is bad“ I think to myself. I carefully add another quart of oil! STILL NOTHING!!!
”Crap!” I think, it only takes 4.4 quarts so it’s either dangerous low orrrrrrrr… dangerously over-filled?
I don’t know what’s real or what’s fake at this point so I take it to a take 5 oil change to ask them to check the dipstick for me. A technician checks and tells me ”oh it’s definitely overfilled“ as he points to the thin barely-visible steaks of oil that I’ve been doubtful of the entire time.
Ironically, before he gets to my car I hear him apologize to another customer for putting the wrong oil in their car!!! He fixes it for them of course but now I’m not sure I can trust his opinion.
Regardless, he sucks a quart or so of oil out of my engine and tells me it’s perfect now. Even though the oil was supposedly just changed right before I bought it and the technician checked, I am thoroughly not confident in the amount of oil in my car.
So today I did my very own oil change. I changed the gasket on the drain plug. I replaced the filter. I filled it up with 4.5 quarts 0W-16 oil specifically for my hybrid engine.
I let the engine idle and warm up, I let it sit and drain back into the pan for over 5 minutes, I park the car on perfectly level ground. I wipe the stick, put it back in, and take it back out.
I STILL CAN’T FREAKING READ THE DIPSTICK AHHHHHHH AHHHHH AHHHHHH WHAT AM I DOING WRONG, WHAT CAN I DO, WHAT THE HECK!!!!!!!!
