Season 4's writing decisions

Just finished watching this series for the first time and loved it. Picked the show initially just to see more of Antony Starr after the Boys but got completely hooked. Definitively a criminally underrated gem.

However, for some reason S4 felt...off. I'm not saying that I disliked it, I think the quality remained consistent throughout the whole show and that the ending was a well-executed conclusion. However, some of the things that went down like >!Rebecca (one of the most important characters) being murdered off-screen and the season being a murder mystery, the ''government assassin'' backstory and plotline that went nowhere etc.!<as well as the season being 8eps instead of the usual 10.

Again, I don't think it fell off or was bad. Just, anyone who is familliar with the series BTS can maybe explain it? Were they facing cancellation or something? Wrote themselves into a corner?

''The Great Navigations happened because the Ottoman Empire cut off Europe from trade with the East after the Fall of Constantinople''. How true is that statement?

It's a very common layman take when discussing the era.

Billy Butcher (The Boys) vs. Kelsier (Mistborn: Original Trilogy)

After being no-scoped by the Lord-Ruler, Kelsier wakes up in Boys-Verse NYC and immediately starts robbing places. This draws the attention of the british anti-supe terrorist known as Billy Butcher. The rest of the Boys are in their bi-weekly ''how to kill Homelander'' brainstorming session and won't show up. Butcher thinks that Kel is a ''supe'' with metal-based powers, but otherwise both go in blind. Kelsier has all metal reserves he needs.

Round 1: Comics Butcher vs. Kelsier without atium.

Round 2: Comics Butcher vs. Kelsier with atium.

Round 3: V24 Butcher vs. Kelsier without atium.

CMV: It is a good thing that schools are more hesitant to hold back/flunk out students now.

One thing I often see that in discussions about education is that, whenever things like behavioural or performance issues come up, lots of people including many teachers immediately go ''No Child Left Behind caused this, we should just hold them back years/flunk them out''. And it always grinds my gears. For background, I'm not an educator though I'm (obviously) a former student. I was a honor roll student across primary-middle school and was in AP and college-bound programs in HS (and it was a hardass school), went and graduated college, just to prevent ''only shitty students think like that'' type arguments.

For one, NCLB was a failed policy but it was never about grade retention despite the catchy name and it's been off-the-books for a decade. Second, and most importantly, the evidence is heavily against grade retention as a practice. At best, results in terms of academic performance/learning are mixed, and at worst it is actively detrimental, it is awful for the students general well-being and greatly increases chances of students dropping outAnd even studies that didn't found such link failed to prove it leads to positive outcomes. Not to mention, it is very inequitable.

I simply do not understand why so many people involved in education chose that hill to die on. It's almost seems like climate change denialism for teachers. Again, I'm not a teacher, so perhaps someone may unravel my ignorance.

What if Michael Jackson remained sane across his life?

By ''remain sane'' I mean:

  • He never develops his substance-related issues.
  • He goes easy on the plastic surgeries.
  • Most importantly, he never molests/grooms children.

Maybe Joe Jackson is a better dad in this timeline, or MJ meets more good people across his life that keep him grounded, or any number of potential ''breaking point'' incidents do not happen (the Pepsi Accident comes to mind).
