o DAS or not to DAS? (Or: Will an 80-mile daily commute kill a 125cc, and me with it?)

Alright folks, absolute novice here looking for some wisdom before I inevitably make a financial error.

I’ve finally pulled the finger out. Theory test is booked. Next step is booking the CBT, and then the plan was to head towards the DAS (Direct Access Scheme). But I’ve hit a bit of a fork in the road and my brain is short-circuiting.

Here is the dilemma:

Option A: Go straight for the DAS, pass it (fingers crossed, touch wood, don't look at the examiner wrong), and buy a proper big bike. I’m currently heavily eyeing up a Triumph Trident 660.

Option B: Do the CBT, put the big bike dreams on ice, and bumble around on a 125cc for a while to "gain experience." I quite like the look of the Lexmoto Detroit/Keeway V-Cruise style of things.

The entire reason I'm getting a license is for my daily work commute. It is an 80-mile round trip. Every day. Five days a week. And it includes a lovely, windy, A-road.

My gut is telling me that if I try to rag a 125cc down an A-road for 80 miles a day, five days a week, the bike would hate me and I might not enjoy the commute?

Being completely new to two wheels, am I disrespecting the power of a 600cc+ machine by jumping straight on one? Or am I being entirely realistic that a 125cc on a heavy daily commute is basically a form of structural torture?

Any advice, reality checks, or insults about my choice of bikes would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers!
