Anyone who's from the States and decided to do MBBS post-high school? Here's my story

Born and raised in California and I've always been interested in becoming a doctor. My mom randomly asked one day "Do you want to go to India for medicine? You can skip premed altogether." This decision was up to me entirely. I was not forced in any way.

My response? "Sure, I guess," not really giving much thought into it, cause I didn't know how serious she was. Later, I realize I fucked up my college apps big time--only applied to top UC's and some CSU's cuz I was a dumbass. I wasn't very well informed on the whole process and neither were my parents. I got rejected from all colleges but one.

So I come to the realization that India is probably my best option, and gave it my all in NEET. I got extremely lucky to get into a good private college with my rank lmaooo.

Fast forward to the present day, I'm almost done with my third year of MBBS in KMC, Mangalore and I do not regret my decision whatsoever. Yes, it was tough to adjust, culturally, professionally, and in terms of the language barrier (idk the local language, nor Hindi so I was kinda double-nerfed),

But I get reinforced everyday that this was the right path for me, cause I probably would've dropped out for sure if I went the premed path. That shit sounds brutal in workload, and in terms of debt. Meanwhile I'm not gonna be in debt for the 5 years of NRI fees over here. Plus I'm having the time of my life here, shit is chill, and it's a whole new experience for me.

(Currently doing a handful of researches and some patents, and recently passed STEP 1, so I'm still locked in, so I'm not just wasting my life away here.)

I treat this like a 5 year tourist vacation plan. Love getting closer to my culture in ways you just can't unless you stay in India.

So those who are interested in MBBS in India, it isn't as bad as the racist others who just had a bad mindset and unluckily bad experience. Maybe it's cause I got into a good private college, but with my marks--anyone should've been able to do it.

If you're in the same boat as me, please share me your story and where you're from!! Would like to get to know how many there are like me. (There was only one person I knew in my college like me but he was 4 years my senior lmaoo barely got to know him)
