ok so been curious about ai girlfriend apps lately but honestly the options are overwhelming. every ad is for a different one and most reviews online feel like ads.

what I'm actually looking for is realism. characters that text like real people, stay in character, remember stuff across sessions. tried a few and they all felt like chatbots with pretty avatars on top.

also need free or solid free tier, not trying to drop a subscription without knowing if it works first. the message paywall trap most apps pull is brutal.

slow buildup is more my vibe than instant nsfw too. anyone actually using one that fits?

ok so I've been using Character AI for a while and I think I'm done with it.
the filters have been getting worse, characters break personality every few messages, memory is basically zero across sessions, and the recent changes feel like they're optimizing for everyone except the people who actually use the app daily

I'm not even asking for nsfw stuff, just want characters that stay in character, remember things from past conversations, and feel like talking to someone with an actual personality instead of a wikipedia summary

stuff that matters to me:
