East River fireworks

Does anyone know where they will be launching the fireworks along the east river? I am trying to figure out where to situate myself for a free viewing. Thanks!

Why MoveFree

Hey everyone, 29M. I have been dealing with a L4/L5 disk herniation since i was 16. It happened after football season in higschool no traumatic injury. I thought I hurt my hamstring as I had this miserable pain down my leg. But darnt the doc told me to get an MRI and it was my sciatica. The pain was so bad and hard to describe. I couldn’t sit down, I couldn’t stand, I couldn’t bend.

After that diagnosis I went through the next 8 years running around seeing physical therapyists, getting massages, acupuncture, epidural shots, and finally diseconomy surgery. It was so demoralizing. Every physical therapists wanted me to do these horrible nerve glides that did nothing. Then pedestrians told me to stretch more or work my abs. But nothing worked. The doctors were telling me there was no way to fix disc herniations and i was F’ed for good. I came to accept my pain as part of my existence.

HOWEVER, I then saw an old friend in a bar that was dealing with something similar. He told me about this posture focused therapy that worked for him and I should try it. Since I was willing to try anything at that point I gave it a shot. The dude gave me 20-30 mins of “homework” every night and I made it my mission to do 40-60 minutes a night. After several months I was completely pain free and on top of the world. The feeling of overcoming what doctors said was not possible transformed me to look at life differently. I felt like I had reclaimed power and no one knew what was best for me besides me. I ended up running two marathons and getting in great shape. What a time. This lasted from about 24-28 years old.

Well I ended up getting lazy for a year (came after meeting my fiance who enjoys the finer things in life more than committing to properly moving function) and the pain came back in a massive way. Did an mri and sure enough those herniations were back this time l5/s1. I was down BAD. could not sit could not stand. Very difficult to think or do anything. I went back to my physical therapist and spent the last seven months going back into that zone of rehab comes extremely (extremely) high on the priority list. I am not done yet but I’m 65% back to where I want to be. Considering how down bad I was it again has absolutely amazed me at what was possible.

These histories have inspired me to try and find like minded people who to share war stories and inspire people who were told they were done for. And also to get way smarter on movement. Once we get out of pain I want to take more steps and go beyond the possibility to slip back. I’ve gone thru a lot of physical traumas so it’s taking time but I’m determined not to stop when I’m out of pain.

What’s your story?

Traditional in-network PT

Hey all, I just got convinced to go to Physical Therapy by my loved ones and had another really bad experience and I’m curious to hear others opinions. I’ve been battling disc issues for over ten years and have tried basically everything besides major surgery. I’ve done traditional PT, massages, acupuncture. None of those have been long lasting and I find them to be short term. Traditional PT I’ve had a lot of issues w specifically. They are obsessed w nerve glides and don’t push me nearly enough.

What’s really helped me is getting 10-15 safe exercises that push myself and that make me feel good. Nothing like w weights but just very simple movements that I can do for 1 hour a day to strengthen the right areas and safely stretch.

Does anyone else have beef with traditional PT?

Bachelor party

Hey all I am planning a bachelor party in the summer months in Hunter Mountain. What are your favorite places to hike in the area? We are looking for a beautiful hike that is probably 2 hours and medium difficulty with some incline.

Also, is there a good spot to hangout by a river or jump in a lake?

Lastly, I am having trouble figuring out booking transportation. Is there a reliable car service? It’s 20 people and I’ve heard to not rely on uber.

Thanks!

Does anyone have a similar experience

Hi I’m wondering if anyone has a similar experience since I don’t know anyone personally.

18 years old I think my hamstring is hurt from no specific event. Go to the doctor they tell me it’s sciatica and I find out I have L4 and L5 herniation. I do PT doesn’t help. I do two injections and they each help for a week then don’t. I get the disectemoy surgery. It helps so I can walk and do moderate physical activity like bike for the next 5 years. I accept this is my life and I just don’t do things like golf run lift etc.

I then find a posture focused physical therapy and I get 100% out of pain. Amazing. This lasts from 23-29.

Fast forward to 29, I get lazy and my shit starts hurting again. I go to the doctor get an MRI and find out I have a L5 S1 herniation. Pretty bad one. This time it’s my right leg that hurts and last time it was my left. This time the pain is more in my hip and butt vs last time it was more sciatica down my left leg. I have been doing the same posture focused therapy that helped last time for the last 7 months. I am very slowly improving but it’s been way slower than I thought and super difficult. I can’t sit. I can’t stand too long. I can not bend at the waste. My right hip joint hurts. When I walk I notice my heal on my right foot clicks in. I wake up in the night bc my shit hurts. I never want to do surgery again so I’m staying focused on my posture therapy and doing 1 hour of stretching and PT a day at home - just my given at home exercises.

Anyone else? What do people think my recovery timeline will be like? Will I recover?

Hey everyone — I’m 29 and about 6 months into what is an L5-S1 disc herniation (no big trauma, just kind of came on over time). I’ve improved since the beginning, but I’m stuck in this frustrating pattern I can’t seem to break.

When I do movement exercises, I actually feel decent. Meaning I can walk but still can’t bend and still feel nagging in my hip. But then if I sit for even a minute or two, my right hip feels like it shifts “out of place,” and when I stand up i can barely walk and I’m limping like I’ve been shot. It’s not sharp nerve pain, more like instability or something being off mechanically. I can usually reset it with movement, but it doesn’t stick.

I’ve also noticed my right foot tends to turn out, and it feels like that whole side is kind of stuck or not moving right. What’s confusing is I thought I’d be mostly better by now, and I don’t know anyone who’s had this kind of immediate regression just from sitting.

Has anyone experienced something like this, where you feel good after movement but lose it really quickly with sitting? Did it end up being more of a hip/pelvis control issue than the disc itself? And if so, what actually helped you get past it?

Appreciate any thoughts — just trying to figure out if this is a normal part of recovery or if I’m missing something as it’s been very brutal and difficult

Hi all, does anyone know what’s going on with Ebbs bar on north 8th? It was always a good vibe bar, but they have been closed for over a year. I thought they were doing construction but it doesn’t seem like they made any progress when I peaked in. Does anyone know what’s going on with it?
