Benefits of Western-Born Murrabi’s

Quickly want to talk about one positive thing I’ve noticed at least in my local chapter.

For a few years, when the US Jamaat started assigning a Murrabi for every chapter, we got pretty lucky.

He was young, probably like 30-35. Born and raised on the east coast of America.

Really chill guy. Honestly most of the time he didn’t want to talk about religion, at least us younger people. He’d really just try to show interest in our interests and organize group activities.

And there were a few times were we had a deep conversation about theological topics, and I felt like I could be unfiltered the way I would if I was talking to a white friend.

Was able to basically lay-out my doubts very clearly, and he even agreed with the cultural problems the Jamaat has, how it’s too desi, etc.

He even actually randomly told me that he knows about this sub, like I didn’t even bring it up. And he has such a chill attitude about this sub, basically just saw it as another internet forum where people debate a hot topic.

Unfortunately he got re-located to Seattle because apparently their Jamaat has grown a lot recently. Our new Murrabi is chill but older and desi.

IMAGINE if most Murrabi’s were like that one though. A lot of the toxic aspects of Jamaat culture would go away pretty quickly. People might be sad if you leave Ahmadiyya but there would be no pitchforks and you’d always be welcome back.

Fair Lawn High School was ranked 64th amongst all NJ high schools in 2020. This year, it's not even in the top 100.

In only 6 years, FLHS went from the 64th best HS in New Jersey, the 107th best in NJ. This is according to an annual report created by USA Today.

That’s a 66% decrease in quality of education, in only 6 years. FLHS’ graduation rate has also gone down by 3%.

Granted, 107th best is still pretty good. But:

• Fair Lawn is a high tax town even for NJ, and most of that money goes to our schools. The recent 11% property tax hike, that 11% is also mostly going to our schools. So why are our schools getting worse? It feels like those tax dollars are wasted.

• The only reason people move to Fair Lawn instead of other nearby towns that are cheaper and similar quality of life, is because Fair Lawn advertises itself as having one of the best public school systems in NJ. It’s the reason why my parents moved us to Fair Lawn from NYC. It’s the reason why so many young families move to Fair Lawn. Now that FLHS has lost that educational status, what’s appealing people to move here? Is Fair Lawn just gonna become a retirement hub?

I graduated FLHS in 2021, moved to Fair Lawn in the 2nd grade. I remember back then, FLHS was in the top 15 best HS’ in NJ. What a fall from grace.

Honestly, my last two years there, we got a new principal and vice principal. No one likes them. You could tell the staff even preferred the old admin. Also, this could just be effects of the nation-wide literacy crisis, and because many students (and many of their millennial parents) don’t care at all about grades, and are coasting on the back of No Child Left Behind.

[NJ] Past workers comp claim affecting future job prospects?

I fractured my spine a few years ago working at a warehouse. Went through workers comp, sued with a PI firm because insurance refused to pay for any treatment beyond 6 PT sessions, settled recently.

But I’m having trouble finding a new job.

In New Jersey, and in the US in general, can employers see that you filed a workers comp claim in the past?

A quick google search tells me that they CAN see if you’ve had past work comp claims, but ONLY after they’ve already given you a job offer, and they can’t rescind the offer due to it.

However, what’s stopping an employer from checking your work comp background after let’s say a first-round interview?

Yes it’s illegal, but is there a system that actually blocks their access? Can they just lie about giving you an offer to check? How likely even is it that someone would find out they checked?

Question about criminal defense

I’m not in the legal field i’m a software engineer, was watching an episode of Better Call Saul and saw this scene where the main character has to defend someone who definitely shot a teenager for no reason while he was working at a small money/wire transfer shop (sort of like a western union you’ll see at a strip mall.)

During the first court hearing, the audience is empty except for the family of the teenager who are all obviously expressing uncontrollable grief.

We then see a slow-motion focus on the lawyer’s face, how sad and sympathetic he feels, and then the wave of guilt hits because he has to represent the monster who did this, who, this whole time, is smiling, relaxed, a bit of a cocky demeanor.

It makes me want to ask criminal defense lawyers, have you ever experienced a similar thing while representing someone? What happened? How did you handle it? How did things turn out?

FAIR LAWN THIS MORNING: Vehicle strikes two pedestrians, a mother and 5 year old child. The 67 year old driver fled the scene.

The accident happened on the cross-section of Broadway Fair Lawn and the entrance into the parkway.

The driver was a 67 year old Fair Lawn resident named Maritza Salazar-Perez. The mother and 5 year old were walking on a crosswalk and had the right of way. She did not stop driving nor did she notify emergency services after hitting the mother and small child.

The mother and child were both taken to a local hospital. The child is suffering from serious injuries, while the mother’s injuries are minor. Both are in stable condition.

BC Prosecutor’s Office released a statement at around 3:30pm today that she has been found and arrested, approximately 10 hours after the incident.

She has since been charged with:

  1. Third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury,

  2. Third-degree endangering an injured victim.

Both of these charges are felonies (Technically NJ’s equivalent, we don’t use the words felony/misdemeanor.) The first charge has a mandatory minimum of 180 days in jail.

Here is a link to the press release from the Prosecutor’s Office:

https://www.bcpo.net/fair-lawn-woman-charged-in-hit-and-run-crash/

Let’s discuss, share our thoughts.

Personally, I think she should serve a few years in the county jail, have her license revoked for life, and compensate the mother and son for medical and psychological damages. There is no way you hit two people and not realize, she knew what she was doing.

Also, not to sound like I’m defending her actions, but everyone who lives in Fair Lawn/EP knows that Broadway, especially the parkway side, has shitty traffic control and can be a bit hectic. It’s definitely not that safe for pedestrians and the town should look into this.

Fair Lawn to increase property tax by 11%.

This pisses me off. Yet another year, yet another property tax raise, in one of the highest-taxed towns in the highest taxed state.

An increase by 5%, raising the total property tax to 11.66%, is basically adding an extra $500-$600 a year for every household, on top of what the property tax already is.

Unfortunately, in Fair Lawn, we don’t get to elect our mayor, the council does. And we only get to elect one or two council members every few years out of the 5 total. So people have no real say of who runs our town, what goes on in this town, because it’s all controlled by that small group of people who basically cannot be democratically elected out.

We need to reform that in Fair Lawn so our politicians actually feel the pressure of accountability and consequences for failing the people. Because otherwise, we get what we have now, a bunch of lazy liars who waste our money on whatever they want. Who knows what they’re actually doing with our money.

Genuinely, what has Fair Lawn’s mayor/city council done for this town in the past years? Nothing but waste our money and make our town shittier, it seems. The roads are now shit, there are so many empty buildings/abandoned construction projects. Our water is contaminated.

Our teachers are already paid well, we definitely don’t need more police officers/police funding, so where is this money going? And don’t say the memorial MS expansion, because that would not justify an 11% increase.

Not only that, but for current homeowners in Fair Lawn, selling their house is gonna be even harder in this economy, because who would willingly move to a town with such high property tax, especially with how unaffordable buying a house already is, and when there are nearby towns that are better quality-of-life and might even have less taxes?

I’m calling it, in the next 5-10 years, Fair Lawn is about to have no more young-families moving in, and it’s just gonna be a bunch of retired boomers because it’s so unaffordable. And all that money put into our mediocre public schools will be in vain, because no young families = no school aged kids.

EDIT: The tax increase is actually going to be about 5% raising the total property tax to 11.6%. My apologies for that

Cybersecurity Contracting in LE?

Hey everyone, I work as a cybersecurity contractor, specifically I create encrypted systems for healthcare facilities. Basically anytime a patient’s PII/PHI is logged digitally, there are regulatory HIPAA standards behind how that data is transmitted/secured. My job is to make sure they meet those standards and avoid the civil liability.

I’ve always wanted to do similar work for police precincts, as I’m assuming there would be similar official/unofficial standards when it comes to police databases and softwares.

I’m assuming that there are probably a few SaaS out there that are pretty much universally used in LE, but maybe I could reach out to lesser-funded departments or make my service somehow more preferable to police.

If I wanted to reach out to some of my local police departments and inquire about this, and assuming that they aren’t already enterprised/contracted/have in-house, what should I expect? What’s the process?

How does it work: The IP for folklore characters like Robin Hood, Odysseus, Dracula?

The earliest written stories we have about Robin Hood date back to around 1370 AD, Dracula was created by a british author in 1897, and Odysseus was created by Homer in ancient Greece.

In recent years we’ve seen some hollywood productions adapting the stories of Robin Hood (Hugh Jackman’s most recent film) and the Odyssey movie from late last year (Matt Damon, some other big names i’m forgetting.) I’m sure there have been Dracula movies too.

How does IP law come into play, when these characters were all created hundreds if not thousands of years ago? Can anyone make a film/video game/book about them?

Like obviously no one can create Harry Potter content outside of fan-fiction which is (probably) covered under fair use, considering that its creation has sufficient legal documentation and its author is still alive (like the 60 years after death rule in the music industry.)

But I doubt the Authors of those folklore 3 characters (Dracula created in 1800’s England, Robin Hood’s author living in the 1300’s, and Homer living in ancient Greece) established any ownership documents. And even if they did, I doubt they are obtainable now.

Why do NYPD cops hate their job?

I saw a post from the other day where someone asked if NYPD is considered prestigious, and the comments had a lot of current/former NYPD basically describing it like hell.

What are the problems in the NYPD, at least from the officer-side of the experience? What are some things you wished civilians knew?

My GREAT experience with a cardiologist

Last week | vented about a bad medical experience, and I'm humbled by how many of you had good advice and even reached out with referrals.

I feel bad that I even had to post that. So I want to make a post highlighting a doctor that I think deserves their flowers.

Alexander Kastakin is a cardiologist in Fair Lawn who runs a private practice and is very insurance-friendly. In the modern state of healthcare, it's very hard to find a doctor who devotes enough time and care towards you while not having insurance barriers holding them back or a schedule that someone else makes for them.

All 4 of my grandparents started getting heart attacks in their early 30's. They all died of their 4th/ 5th one by their 50's. None of them smoked or drank, I do both, and am getting closer to 30 than I'd like. I started to develop early stage heart disease problems but under Dr Kastakin's care I'm very close to my normal age range now.

Dr Kastakin will accept whatever insurance you have and during your appointment he will be very patient and thorough, and not only get to know your medical history but you as a person.

You genuinely feel like he cares about your health and wants the best for you. His nurse and secretary are both talented and kind.

Also, he's a Russian immigrant who was a doctor in Moscow until he immigrated in his 30's. I can tell that he's worked very hard to be where he is today.

Nothing but positive experiences with professionals that come from Russian/slavic backgrounds especially in the medical field.

Please give him a 5 star review bomb :)

Is getting in an accident with a police vehicle any different than with another civilian?

Let’s assume that you get in a fender bender with a cop car and you’re at fault, other than owing the precinct money for the repairs, wether it be through cash/insurance, do you face any criminal/legal consequences?

I’m assuming that if the cop gets injured it’ll fall under workers comp, so you’re probably not liable when it comes to medical damages?

And what if the accident is a little more serious, like t-boning the cop because you drove past a stop sign?

My horrible experience with Summit Health

TL/DR: A doctor didn’t show up to my appointment 3 times in a row, it was for my brain damage, and when I complained about it to his office, they banned me from the practice.

Before I start:

I want to make clear that I’m speaking from my personal experiences with Summit Health and this post isn’t made with the intention to make them look poorly. I am making this post because it’s socially important for patients to advocate about their negative experiences with healthcare professionals so that the system remains in check and others can avoid harm. As patients, our voices are our only real source of power in a healthcare system that is often times stacked against us.

This isn’t a request for a boycott, just a cautionary warning for those who may need similar medical care as I did.

And I’m not sure if it’s against sub rules to call out a specific business, but considering that summit health is a large healthcare corporation and I won’t be calling out any specific names, I don’t see the harm in posting this.

What happened:

Back in January I booked an appointment with Summit Health’s ENT (ear, nose, throat) office in Fair Lawn due to lesions I suffered to my brain’s vestibular system, which controls balance, causing me to have severe vertigo issues. It’s most likely from my years of boxing. I got recommended to an ENT after a neurologist consult to discuss surgical options. The receptionist tells me the doctor’s soonest availability is in mid February (normal for a new patient.)

A month goes by, and it’s 6pm the day before the appointment. I get a call from their office that they have to reschedule my appointment because the Doctor had a family emergency. This is understandable, and I act cordial. They say that his next availability is about 60 days out in April. I ask if they are sure he can’t squeeze me in sooner, they say they can’t. Whatever though, not a big deal.

Fast-forward to April, and once again, it’s the day before the appointment. And once again, it’s late in the afternoon, around 5pm, and they call me, saying that they need to reschedule the appointment because the doctor won’t be in the office because he’s “taking the day off.” I’m a bit annoyed at this point, because I’ve been waiting to see him since January and it’s now April, but I’m still trying to be professional. So in the nicest way possible I tell them that I understand, but this is the second time in a row that he’s canceled on me last minuet, and that the appointment is for a serious and urgent medical concern. And that because of all that, I really want to be seen next week.

They tell me that the soonest they have available is June 2nd, about 2 months out. I felt annoyed, because there’s no way I’m about to wait a total of 6 months for an initial consult, never mind any actual treatment. I reassert to them that the situation isn’t fair to me, and asked if the Doctor could maybe stay an extra 30 minuets at the end of a shift so he could see me. They tell me no. Whatever.

June 2nd comes. And guess what. It happened again. The literal day before the appointment, late in the afternoon, the receptionist calls me and says that they need to reschedule the appointment. This time they don’t even give me a reason. And they say his next availability will be in August.

At that point I’m feeling so disrespected. I lose my cool a little bit and tell the nurse that this is completely unacceptable and that my medical condition has been left untreated and has been worsening, and that the doctor is being unprofessional by cancelling last minuet 3 times in a row and pushing me back months when they should have rescheduled me for within a week. The receptionist isn’t being helpful and is just stonewalling me, telling me that it’s just how it is.

I told them that I’ll let them reschedule me for August but if it happens again then I’d no longer be interested.

A few days after the 3rd time their office called to cancel, I get another call from their office and some angry old lady who claims to be the office manager is yelling at me, accusing ME of no-showing and cancelling last minuet. She starts threatening to ban me from the practice.

I tell the lady that I have phone-log records of them CALLING ME the day before my scheduled appointments, and that I even recorded my last phonecall with them via the second device method.

She tries to play stupid, saying stuff like “I don’t know anything about what you’re talking about I’m just going off of what WE wrote in your notes” AKA “we don’t care if you have proof, we’re going off of what we want to say happened.”

That’s literally gaslighting.

That’s them trying to cover the doctor’s ass at the expense of the patient, because the doctor failed to care for a patient.

I then tried calling their patient relations department about this, and I recorded that phone call’s audio too. The woman who answered stonewalled me, basically saying that there was nothing she can do and they can only go off of what the doctor’s office says. I call them out for not really being helpful and defending the business over the patient, and that’s when she started SCREAMING and insulting me, calling me weird for even calling about this. I kept asking her to calm down and stop yelling, and she’d scream back “I’M NOT YELLING.” Mind you, at no point did I raise my voice or insult her personally, I just advocated for myself.

I get a letter in the mail saying I’m no longer welcome to see that doctor because of “repeated late cancellations and no shows.” When in reality their doctor would refuse to show up to appointments and they wanted to frame me as the person at fault and I have the proof for it.

I don’t know if I wanna be petty by filing formal complaints with the department of health/state medical board, but it’s important that I at least try to warn others about how they treat patients, so that your time and your health isn’t wasted.

I was in a car accident in October 2025.

Basically, I was at a stop sign, waiting to turn left on the crossroad while traffic was passing. There was a lot of oncoming traffic, so I was waiting at the stop sign for a solid 40 seconds. My car was at a full stop with my indicator pointing left.

Then all of a sudden, a commercial van rams me from behind at 30mph. My car was at 0mph because I was waiting at a stop sign. I felt like my entire body just got hit by a boulder moving at the speed of a baseball. My car got launched a few feet forward and almost went into oncoming traffic. I’m assuming the driver tried slamming the breaks before impact, because otherwise my car probably’d get launched even further and more damage would have been done to me + my vehicle. Both the van driver’s insurance and my insurance found me at 0% liability with him being at 100%.

Mashallah, my car wasn’t totaled and I got it back from the mechanic about a month later. But that’s the only good thing to come out of this.

I suffered a moderate concussion, laberal tears in my hip, ruptured meniscus in my knee, sprained my neck, and I aggravated an old spine fracture that never healed properly in the first place. This was all diagnosed at an Urgent Care by an MD on the same day of the accident.

In the state I live in, and probably most states, if you are in a MV accident, your personal health insurance will always deny related treatment because your car insurance is the primary responsible for coverage.

Everything was copasetic with the medical treatment for the first month. I started my treatment at the same orthopedic facility I went to back when I fractured my spine a few years ago. They’re good people. Met with their Orthopedic surgeon and this physician assistant who specializes in pain management. They gave me some pain relief cream, xrays, and told me to start PT asap (they have in-house PT, and they were great with me in the past, and were great this time around too.)

I was about 3-4 PT sessions in, with 1-2 sessions a week depending on my work/college schedule, when my MV insurance sent a letter saying that I no longer needed treatment because their medical adjuster claimed I reached MMR. They said that they would not be covering any future treatment.

Whatever, fine. I’m still under 26 and my dad has good health insurance from his government job, so it genuinely meant nothing to me, because I thought I was gonna be covered either way. But I was wrong. The ortho office said that they can’t use my personal insurance. I called a few other ortho offices in the area, thinking it might just be that office’s policy, but literally every single office said the same thing. And I remembered that when I went to an Urgent Care the day of the accident, their receptions said the same thing, that they cannot use my private insurance, only my MV.

I was no way near MMR, I wasn’t even feeling like my injuries were improving off of the PT alone (granted, 3-4 sessions is not enough for improvement to become noticeable, but they just cut me off from getting more.) I felt panicked, stuck, and angry. So I decided to hire a personal injury firm, because I read online that PI attorneys exist for situations like mine, don’t charge anything out of pocket and only take a 20-30% commission from your settlement if one is reached. It’s a good option with no drawbacks, or at least that’s how it’s supposed to be.

I ended up hiring one of those big law firms, the type that’s always advertising on billboards and during your grandma’s soap operas, making posts in IG/tiktok. One of those “high volume, face paced” type of places. In heinseight, all that should have been a red flag.

For the sake of avoiding slander accusations, I’m not going to use that firm’s real name. So l’m just going to refer to them as “the PI firm.”

I speak with their intake, sign the retainer, and get a call from my case manager about an hour later. Let’s call him John. John explains to me that he basically works under one of the attorneys, and that he will be in charge of my case during the medical treatment/pre-litigation phase, and that if I have any questions for the attorneys, to just ask him directly.

That seemed normal, and I’m assuming that most law firms operate in a similar way, especially the bigger ones.

John calls me a few days later after speaking with the insurance’s medical adjuster. He basically told me that the insurance approved 5 more PT sessions and wanted me to do an IME afterwards to evaluated future care needs. They also wanted me to start getting treatment from a specific orthopedic company that they apparently work a lot with.

I have my gripes with that orthopedic company, like I call them a company instead of a medical practice because the way they operate. They have the business model of maximizing profits/advertising, very similar to a corporate entity, and very similar to the law firm. Like, they overbook appointments to the point where an hour and a half wait is expected, and you never ever see or speak to the doctor you’re supposed to consult with on-paper, just a bunch of CNA’s, and they’ll reassure you that the doctor is supervising everything, when in reality they probably just sign whatever the CNA says. Not a jab at CNA’s, but let’s be real, I’m not trusting someone who took a 4 month certification over the MD i’m scheduled on paper to see.

I have this belief that people who are truly good in their field and aren’t just obsessed with the money don’t go around doing so much advertising, because they don’t need to convince people that they’re great, they just are and people notice.

Also, I’ve uncovered online commentary from former patients about how the owner of the law firm and the owner of the orthopedic company were investigated by the Consumer Protection Bureau, because both owners are buddies like there was evidence of them hanging out at eachother’s mansions often. The investigation alleged that they have this silent agreement where the orthopedic would funnel patients to their law firm. Infact, my first visit with the CNA, mentioned that I should get a lawyer, and gave me the law firm’s business card. That’s how I ended up hiring them. Anyways, the CFPB investigation basically went cold because of the lack of evidence or something.

Anyways, what my case manager told me about the continued PT -> MRI approval plan sounded routine/expected. So I followed what the case manager said.

A month later, I’m probably around 9-10 total PT sessions. When I went to the IME, the doctor basically said that I definitely need an MRI and possibly injections depending on what the imaging reveals. IME doctor also said that PT clearly wasn’t improving my health. He also noted that PT might actually be aggravating my injuries, because I told him that my body actually hurts more during/right after PT. Before that point, I assumed the increased pain was part of the healing process with PT.

My attorneys also had me do an evaluation with the doctor I was already seeing, who basically said the same thing.

Few days pass by. My case manager John calls me, and said that insurance denied the MRI request, and stated that they need at least 5 more PT sessions.

This confused me, because at first, they told me that before getting an MRI, the insurance asked for 5 more PT’s and IME findings that PT isn’t sufficient treatment, and the insurance got both. Why would they up it by another 5 sessions for an MEI after they already spelled out the requirements?

I chose to suck it up. Did 3 more PT sessions. At about 13-14 sessions total. But the PT wasn’t helping and only making my symptoms worse like I said, like the IME doctor said, like the lawyer’s doctor said.

After completing the next set of 5 PT’s, I get another IME done. This time with a different IME doctor than before. This new IME doctor basically agrees with what the previous IME found and what the firm’s doctor found. That I’ve done enough PT and that it clearly wasn’t helping, and that it was actually worsening my symptoms. That I needed MRI’s as soon as possible, and likely injections depending on the imaging’s findings.

A few days later, the case manager calls again. I want you to guess what he says to me.

Insurance denied the MRI and wants 5 more PT sessions.

At this point, I’m fed up. It’s been 5 months since the car accident, and all I’ve been allowed to do is PT, when literally two IME doctors, who are paid by the insurance to minimize your injuries so that they could deny treatment, have put on paper that PT is hurting me instead helping me heal, and that I need MRI’s/injections ASAP.

Mind you, 5 months into the retainer, and I literally had not spoken to any attorney directly, not once, despite me asking my case manager to set up a time for a phonecall with my attorney. The one time the attorney agreed to a phonecall, the case manager emailed me last minuet saying that she won’t be able to call me because she “left for the day.”

I don’t tolerate that. Honestly, I start ranting to the case manager about how it’s been half a year and i haven’t gotten the treatment I need, that my injuries are getting worse, and that it felt like the law firm was just a messenger / yes-man for whatever the insurance wants. Isn’t the whole point of hiring a PI attorney, is that they fight the insurance on behalf of your needs, rather than just being their enforcer? Why were they entitled to 30% of a settlement when they’re basically working for the other side?

I say all that to the case manager, and I demand to speak to an attorney. I tell them that the next time they contact me, it must be a calls/emails directly from the attorney handling my case. My tone and language was honestly a bit passive aggressive.

He sets up a time for the attorney to call me the next day. She actually calls this time, and thankfully I recorded the phonecall because she gets kinda crazy.

Basically, she starts blaming me for the MRI not happening yet. She starts saying that their firm is a “high volume firm” and that none of her other cases last as long as mine (5 months btw.)

She also starts framing me as some sort of problematic client. That’s when I explain to her that I’ve complied with every instruction the case manager has given me in terms of treatment, but that the “goal-posts keep being pushed back” when it comes to securing an MRI and the treatment that all 3 treating doctors think I urgently need. I also address the fact that this is the first time I’ve spoken to her since I hired her 5 months ago, and the one time she had a phonecall scheduled with me, she canceled. She then accuses me of no-showing for that phonecall (mind you, I have the email of my case manager explicitly saying that the phonecall is canceled because SHE won’t be able to make it, the reason being that she’ll be going home at that time)

I also explain to her that the PT only aggrivates my injuries, causes me pain, and after 15 sessions no improvement has been realized from it. I explain to her that both IME doctors think PT should be stopped and that an MRI is currently warranted.

Her response? “It doesn’t matter if the PT is hurting you. You have to do it because that’s what the insurance wants. If you don’t do 10 more PT sessions in the next 2 weeks, I will drop you as a client.”

This stressed me out. Because if they dropped me as a client, how the hell was I gonna get treated. So I just shut up and did what she said.

However, not even a week after that, I get a letter from the firm saying that they’re dropping my case due to “me not being easy to communicate with.” Yes, because asking to speak with your attorney is me being bad at communication. Because me following the firm’s instructions is bad communication.

I responded with a termination of representation letter, keeping it short and vague, but made sure to mention that I’m firing them for cause.

The day after I fire them, I hire a new attorney. It’s a smaller firm, I think it’s just two partners and whatever paralegals they have. This new lawyer is amazing. I get the vibe that he actually cares about his clients’ health, he communicates regularly. Not even a week after signing that new retainer, I get a text from my new attorney saying that my MRI is approved and that it’s been scheduled. No bs, no additional PT required, approved. It makes me genuinely think that my previous law firm was genuinely just doing whatever the insurance says, without questioning it or fighting it. They were genuinely just an extra buffer, like I could have faired the same if I never hired them and spoke with the medical adjuster directly. This new attorney thought, the opposite. Barely a week into his retainer and he’s already fought them into getting my MRI approved. Also, this new lawyer, when I told him about everything that’s happened so far, he was genuinely mad and concerned for me.

I’m just mad because I feel like that previous firm fucked me over. It’s been almost 8 months since the accident and I haven’t gotten proper care. If I had, I probably would have been close to 100% by now. But my injuries are getting worse and have been left inadequately treated. Before this accident, I used to run 2 miles a day every other day. I used to lift weights, I used to box every Saturday morning. Now I can barely walk around my own house. I had abs but now I’ve gotten fat, my social life is going down the drain because I can barely walk, and it’s honestly it’s starting to make me a bit depressed.

I don’t know what my recourse is, or if recourse is even worth my time. Idk if this situation warrants a bar complaint, civil action, or what. I’m just so mad at the previous firm for how they handled my case, mainly because of how it’s delayed my treatment, and delayed treatment decreases MME and makes it harder to heal in general. I already heal like shit naturally, and this all makes it worse.

Some background about me:

I’m a 24 year old, currently in grad school for computer science. I work as the cybersecurity administrator for a small sized medical imaging company that my dad’s old college roommate started during COVID. My is job hybrid, only having to visit our 3 locations once every two weeks for routine hardware inspection/maintenance. I’m also on-call basically 24/7. Most of my job is just supervising our IT team, ensuring HIPAA compliance within our systems, and handling any escalations the team can’t figure out themselves. So thankfully, my injuries don’t really affect my employment too much, and my masters program is online like most CS grad programs are.
