Discouraged
Set up a test drive for a Prius C a while back. At the same dealership there was a higher priced Kia Niro that looked interesting to me that I thought I’d check out at the same time. It was over my budget but I just wanted to check it out since I’d be there anyway.
Prius sold. I canceled the appointment because of the price of the Niro. The salesperson said she’d work with me on price if I loved the car.
I ignored her for a while and then she reached out with a deal. She knocked $5k off the listing price, though the final price was still $2k over my budget. I thought, okay well I guess I’ll just go check it out. I had been looking for a while and didn’t find anything else that was really exciting to me. So she got me in the door.
I drove it and liked it. Took it to my mechanic today and it’s in really good condition. Then the fucking finance guy got me with an extra warranty for over $3k in the eleventh hour after I had told him 30 minutes earlier that I had to leave in 45 minutes to get to an appointment. I tried to deny add-ons and he of course made it seem like I would really be better off with this warranty.
Now the price is the same as the listed price that I was trying to turn down in the first place (excluding the doc fees etc). Trying to decide if I should go back and stay firm on declining the extra warranty (there’s already like 3 warranties still on the car) or just kill the deal altogether. This process is so vulnerable and I don’t want to get scammed. I can’t deal with it. I’ve already had too many difficult events and setbacks this year.
What to do?
UPDATE: It took some work but I got them to take the warranty off. Thanks for the support 💓
Seriously thinking about purchasing this Niro
Hi Niro enthusiasts! Seriously thinking about joining yall as a Niro owner. Any tips/tricks/insights to share? I’m nervous because I’ve been a Toyota guy for the last 15 years but the Niro fits my needs better than Toyotas I’m finding right now.
Thinking about this one. What do you think?
Thanks!
Seriously considering this Kia Niro
Looking for a sweet spot of affordability, utilitarian cargo space, reliability, and fuel efficiency. I’m sizing up from a Toyota Yaris and I don’t need bells and whistles, though this car has plenty.
Also looking at RAV4 hybrid (considerably more expensive) and Ford Escape Hybrid.
Any insights on this Niro or anything else? Very open to suggestions for where to look and what to look for like other makes and models, Carmax vs. dealerships, etc.
Thank you! Wish I had a dad-like person in my life to help with this process.
Seeking reputable used car dealer recs
Anyone have any particularly good experiences with used car buying in the past year or two? Looking primarily at Toyota but also considering Honda or Subaru. Hybrid is the dream but we shall see.
I live in the greater Portland area but willing to travel for the right car/exceptionally nice and fair salesperson !
