I fire’d age 8 - is it too young?

Ive been hustling hard in five remote jobs, each job each overseeing 20 AI agents hustling hard, while living rent-free with my parents and going to school.

When I broke through $10 million NW I finally pulled the cord and FIRE’d.

However now I have the problem that my teacher at school says I’m not allowed to retire yet, even though I already have.

Can anyone please advise?

Also do I tell parents Ive FIRE’d or will this just make them greedy and stop giving me pocket money?

Big developing countries like Indonesia want to go faster on EV transition, but are under massive lobbying pressure from global automakers - especially Japanese brands.

New research from think tank InfluenceMap uncovers the lobbying tactics and arguments deployed by global automakers to slow down Indonesia's transition away from fossil-fuel burning vehicles to electric vehicles.

A key part of the game plan is to lobby for petrol/gasoline hybrids to get beneficial treatment or the same incentives as EVs, despite them running on fossil fuel as their only energy input.

Airports solarpunk-washing?

Airports are the locus points of the most unsustainable carbon-intensive hyper-consumption lifestyles, catering for the minority 20% of so of humanity who have ever been on a plane, and even within that segment, dedicated to the 1% of humanity that accounts for around half of all airline emissions. (because they fly so frequently).

There is no faster way to fry the planet than to hop on a long-haul business class flight - regularly.

Meanwhile airports are increasingly adopting something like a solarpunk aesthetic - soaring curved ceilings, exposed wood beams, abundant greenery, calming water pools.

What should solarpunks actually do in response?

How does the sleek greenwashed facade of hyper-capitalism get disrupted in a way that builds power, and brings people into a movement, rather than just pissing people off who want to go on holiday.

How do you track annual investment gains vs contributions in your ISA?

People who have a stocks and shares ISA, how do you track your annual contributions, separate from investment gains?

At moment I’m just downloading the bi-yearly statements of total ISA portfolio value, whacking in a spreadsheet, and subtracting my monthyl contributions to get to the return on investment.

Is this right or is there a better way to do this?

Also do you keep track of calendar year returns, or over one tax year returns, or both?

Are there some useful apps or downloadable spreadsheet formats for this?

Cheers for any thoughts

Why is Saudi Aramco allowed to sponsor the women’s game?

Saudi Aramco is basically the Saudi state, with ruling royal family members installed as key board members, and its oil income making up a large part of the governments budget.

So why on earth is a theocratic regime, with no democracy, that still requires women to obtain permission from a male guardian to travel anywhere, or even apply for a passport, allowed to sportswash its image with womens cricket?

Its a complete contradiction.

Sends very mixed messages to women and girls getting into the sport about whether women actually have human rights, or whether all that’s all out the window for a big oily cheque. Im sure some of the players feel compromised, but are scared to speak out.

I do find it disgusting, and wish the ECB would publish some basic ethical standards that it requires any sponsor to meet

“Toyota says it's committed to solving the climate crisis. But the guy whose name is on the building doesn't seem to agree.”

“I feel very alone,” says Toyota boss. “Everybody is switching to BEVs.”

"Everybody is shifting to BEVs, this is the biggest fear for me," Akio Toyoda told Carwow. "Three or four years ago, I was the only one to say to the media that I love smell, I love sound and I love engines, and I want to keep the jobs for engine suppliers.
"But it seems to me that I'm the only one. I feel very alone."

Do you personally care about the latest “drinking controversy”?

I dont care if Stokes and Atkinson went drinking to celebrate.

Theyre two grown men, under tremendous work stress and pressure, perfectly capable of deciding themselves what impacts their own training and bodies, and ultimately responsible for their own careers.

I dont think we as fans “own” the players, or get to tell them how to live their lives off the pitch.

This seems like a good story for media to get some clicks, but if there wasnt a media story, Im not sure it affects the team I follow in any way, or that its even any of my business!

Lets take a moment to appreciate long-lasting kitchen appliances

Our Kenwood whizzer/blender/food processor whatever you call it is now 12 years old and going strong!

Only had a 1-year guarantee i think, and was one of the cheapest available, but is still working fine on a daily basis. Makes me happy.

While we all can see a lot of products getting made worse now, like clothing, its good to appreciate the few products that are made to last.

What is your longest lasting household appliance?

Do you look after it extra carefully, or has it withstood a pounding, from kids and clumsy drops?

Hi folks,

Interactive Investor platform only processes monthly automatic investments in first week of month (May 6th this month), and only allows you to make automatic deposits on the 12th of each month.

This seems annoyingly designed to force you to leave cash with them for 3 weeks every month, potentially missing out on interest it could be earning in a savings account.

Does this bug anyone else, or am I missing some easy fix?

Do other platforms let you automate investments and deposits any day you like, or do they all do this in some way?

Cheers
