Creative NIMBY tactics or do they have a legit point?

I want to be fair and understand this but since our local media sucks so bad, it’s very hard to tell what’s legit or reasonable about these people’s opposition to this project. Anyone have some perspectives?

Time to go make it very clear to Mobile GR that DASH *expansion* and not DASH cuts are the way...

Lots of engagement opportunities here. Show up, so you're not left here in Redding asking "how'd this even HAPPEN?!?"

Being dishonest, sensational, and exaggerating isn't going to help us battle Flock/LPRs.

Happened by Bridge St Market today. Went to look for this supposed Flock camera. It's not there. this means only one of two options...

1- She gone. Someone tore it down (good on ya, and thanks!), or they removed this for some other pressure-reason (unlikely).

2- This has been reported by some idiot who has no idea what they're talking about and they've just decided that one of the several PTZ security cameras that have been there for years or some recently-installed one is Flock.

Flock and everyone who supports them needs to kiss all of our asses and stop selling out the values of American freedom every chance they get, and I'm on-board for the anti-Flock movement, but this shit needs to be accurate and truthful if we're going to have an impact.

Get your shit together.

Phil Skaggs just lost and it’s glorious.

Like any crotch fungus or cockroach, we haven’t seen the last of Phil and his greasy bottom-feeding pals, but it sure is sweet to see him get a chunk taken out of his ass tonight. Congrats, Abbie!

Haley Stevens just exploited a local small business tonight. Imagine what she'd do to you.

What a rat move to pull. It's a shame Pux was put in this situation. Be sure to vote Abdul tomorrow and send this AIPAC puppet packing.

"When Pux was approached to book this event, we were only told it would be a private women’s Dem event. Pux was never advised that Haley Stevens would be connected with this event. We are heartbroken as we pride ourselves on being not only a queer friendly space but also have advocated and continue to call for a free Palestine. We DO NOT endorse Haley Stevens. Our promise to our community is that in the future we will be more vigilant in requesting specific details for private events in the future. We apologize most sincerely and will be donating the proceeds tonight to the Grand Rapids Pride Center."

Hayley Stevens is crashing out and it's glorious to watch...

Her loony, sold-out-to-AIPAC rants are becoming more and more unhinged. You love to see it. Vote Abdul and send this walking, talking example of everything wrong with the Dems (and American politics in general) home so she can soak up her tears with her stacks of dirty DTE dollars.

Need a sample ballot? (So you can BE SURE TO VOTE this weekend or on Tuesday...)

Since Kent County's Republican-run government makes it difficult (because of course they would) to find a true sample ballot and others in various places might find it handy, here is the link to get yours at the state SOS website, as well as other info.

Confirmed: IMAX seats not NEW, but covered

Assorted discussions here in local subs, while The Odyssey is a hot topic, have included opinions and info on the notoriously old and busted seating at Celebration North in the IMAX. After checking again with management, here are the facts, for those curious:

- The seats have not been replaced. Those are seat covers, which are doing a nice job for now, till they can figure out their plan for a real remodel (and how to offer recliners without giving up too many butts in seats).

- The arm rests are, indeed, flipped to refresh them, using what was the bottom (and unworn/less worn) side as the new top side. (Wanna confirm? Flip one up and behind the worn out old surface you used see on the top.)

- The front row was replaced with the usual Celebration recliners.

- Interestingly, they're up for a re-certification with IMAX soonish and will have to make several other upgrades, including something about the lobby by the theater. Should be intriguing to see how it all goes.

What’s your favorite intersection that needs to be a roundabout in GR?

… and not one of those phoned-in roundabouts that’s basically a circular sidewalk dropped into an existing intersection, but a REAL one.

I’ll go first: Leonard/Walker/Bristol.

Amphitheater exterior enjoyment update

Took a stroll around the amphitheater last night during the Sarah McLachlan concert. There are various quite-pleasant places to hang out and enjoy the music. The speakers that have been posted about before are really not that big of a deal because they are mostly along the pathway next to the actual venue and they are playing an announcement loop that seems quite useful for people approaching the venue. It covers things like outside containers and bag sizes and chair dimensions and other useful shit. Seems pretty legit. If you don’t sit on the main path, you can easily chill out and enjoy some portion of a show from outside the bowl.

It isn’t lost on me that they seem to make sure to run their sprinklers and soak all of the benches as much as possible during the main act and it was also not lost on me that the main gate speakers were blasting unrelated hard rock but there is very little impact to most of the spaces in general, and when it comes to the things they could’ve chosen to do regarding public spaces… this all seem very nominal.

Next time there’s a show in town that you think you’d at least like to listen in on for a little while I would highly recommend moseying down to make an evening of it. Grab some of your favorite food and drink nearby, get a little walk in, and partake of the community benefit portion of this venue.

With McMorrow out, Phil Skaggs up to his usual shenanigans, and Trump bloviating, let's keep this handy reference close by...

Saw this elsewhere today, and it might be worth keeping on hand as people continue to try to falsely bash candidates like Abdul or Diaz or Groff-Blaszak. It applies nationwide, but will likely be frequently needed here in MI to educate morons. (If that's not already futile.)

Yeah it’s a weird time to try to be happy about the 250th…

But I’ve seen several things today that still make for nice examples of the community spirit and ideals we can still choose to notice and embrace. Here’s hoping everyone is having a nice holiday in whatever way you are or are not engaging, and at least while we still have the freedom to do so, here’s to being honest about it all and the continued aspiration for that “more perfect union.”
